nuisance algae in SPS system

Some have success with kent tech m raising the mag. I've found what works best for me is removing water to expose the algae and hitting it with peroxide. This is not a big deal since my tank is a 40b. Or you could pull the rocks out if they are easy to remove.

It's speculated it something specific in the tech m that does it and normally people see results from 1600-2000ppm

Oh btw, I would not manually remove it in your tank. It will spread like wild fire. At least my strain does.

Thanks Will-- will try. Anyone else have any ideas? too late on the not removing any by hand....

When magnesium gets that high a lot of corals will bleach from what I've read. It does something to disrupt photosynthesis. That's how it kills some algaes but most corals can survive it since they feed by more than just photosynthetic means

I just went through using kent tech m. I first removed as much bryopsis off my rock then started raising my mg until I saw it dying. Once it dies I maintained that level for two weeks. It's been six weeks since mine has died and I haven't seen it come back.

Before tech m I tried everything including taking rock out, scrubbing it and turning out lights. That stuff is hard to kill.

I lost zero corals but did have some snail deaths. My mg only had to go to 1800. That's when mine started to die
