NYC 28g JBJ CF-Quad

My girlfiend and I started this tank back in March and have been slowly adding to it. As the title suggests, the tank is a JBJ CF-Quad, 28 gallons. It is our first saltwater aquarium.

We have gotten a lot of enjoyment out of it, and at times frustration. The tank sprung a leak in the middle of the night once, where the glass meets the plastic rim in the front of the display. An emerald crab who did an amazing job of eradicating a small Valonia break-out also developed an appetite for our Acans (he has since been returned to the LFS).

Current livestock includes:
2 False Perc Clownfish
1 Scooter Blenny/Dragonet
3 Hermit Crabs
~10 Assorted Snails

Corals:
Hammer Coral
Green Star Polyp
Mushroom (Ricordia?)
Toadstool Leather
Galaxia
Blastos

We are running the inTank Media Basket. First column has a filter sponge (cleaned with each water change), Second column has Purigen, Third has Chemi-Pure. We purchased the Nano Koralia (450 I think?) but have not installed it as we would have to drill a hole in the lid for the cord to pass through. Does anybody have any suggestions that avoid drilling?

We also received and installed the HOB-1 protein skimmer yesterday. When we flipped it on, we saw a ton of micro bubbles that didnt seem to be going away. This spooked the fish pretty badly as the lights were already off and the clowns typically hang by the powerheads. They started behaving very strangely, lying in the sand at the bottom rather than swimming (never seen this behavior from them). We ended up taking out the skimmer for now. Can anybody advise about the skimmer? We ran it in warm water for 20 minutes prior to running it in the tank. Any suggestions are much appreciated!

There are punch out holes on the back of the hood for power cords, air hoses and two for even return hoses

Thank you for the advice. I cant say Ive ever noticed these on the hood I will have to take a closer look.

Can anybody chime in regarding the HOB-1?

All the info you could ever want on the HOB-1, all in one central repository:

Tank is looking like a great start, that dragonet looks awesome when it's flashing!

Thank you very much, Ill read that in detail. Its funny how the Dragonet can go from looking pretty plain to absolutely stunning. It was sold to us as a "blenny" and had we known how much success we would have with an actual Dragonet, we probably would have picked up one of the more attractive ones.

Are you running stock lighting?

Yes, we are running the stock lights in the CF-Quad hood. We have thought of eventually upgrading to the LED hood, but have seen people such as Ange have success and good growth with these lights.

Have you tried dumping the return for the skimmer back into the center chamber? Skimmers do take a few days to get balanced out and not output micro bubbles.
