Ug, I need to get some more of these for my urchin. Why do they make them out of a rubber that hardens up and cracks so quickly?

In my experience aqua c is REALLY good about replacement parts. I would contact them.

Yep, sent me new ones as well. I didn't realize that the lubrication was so crucial to protecting the rubber from going brittle and cracking.

Dtip, i dont know anything about lubrication. please explain.

They basically said that coating the ring with a petroleum jelly or silicone based lubricant helps preserve the life of the ring. By, I assume, helping to protect it from the affects of saltwater and humidity.
