Oahu

I'm going to Oahu in oct. We plan on snorkeling with the dolphins. Has anyone else done this and if so do you also see reef fish. Should I also snorkel at Hanuma bay? Thanks for input :fish1:

Hanauma Bay is fine for snorkeling. A lot of the inner reef is dead because of the huge numbers of tourists that frequent the bay, but if you go further out there are tons of fish (since the area is a marine protected area). It is pretty late in the year, but if the seas are calm enough, Three Tables and Shark's Cove on the North Shore also have really good snorkeling.

I lived on Oahu for 6 years. Hanauma Bay is, by far, the most popular snorkel spot. But I really just think that's because it's close to Waikiki and is promoted as such. If you're entering from the beach, you have to get WAY out there to see any type of coral. Nearly the entire bay is destroyed. The fish will swim in, but there is no coral to be seen until you're practically out of the bay.

Shark's Cove has been mentioned.

Not sure how long you're on the island. If you're there more than a week, you really need to make it to another island. Kauai or Maui. In my opinion, much more of the undisturbed beauty that is Hawaii.

We are only going to be there for a week, we plan on swimming with the dolphins, they said that they would also stop at a reef to snorkel. Should I even bother with Hanuma bay then? Our son is in the Marines and stationed there, so I'm sure we will go back again sometime.
