Oceanic salt, Store use only

I just found out I can get 125gal mix of oceanic for $15 but it says "store use only", Is that kinda like zoo mix where I cant make up small amounts? I looked at the website but saw no info

I expect they sell it extra cheap to convince stores to use it, then the stores tell customers they use it. I have no idea if it is different or not. Oceanic is not on my list of preferred salt brands.

Thanks Randy
I've been happy the past couple years with Tropic Marin but this is so cheap I was thinking of trying it, Maybe I'll just use it to cycle the new stetup.
Just courious what mix do you use?

I use IO, but Tropic Marin seems to be a fine choice. There are some others that are probably just as good (Kent, perhaps), and then a second tier that I do not care for. :)

Thanks, I used to use IO and then their ReefCrystals (dissolved quickly), have used Coralife for a bit but Ca and alk are a mess when I do water changes.

What ever happened to Craig? I havn't heard anything about him since he left usenet.

I'm not shure but I think that article was written before aquarium systems changed there formulas.

Only reason I mention this is I had been having problems with there new formula,so I changed

I'm guessing that the "generic bagged" salt is just that. The same salt, but just in cheaper packaging. I'm also assuming that it was not the intention of the manufacturer that it be sold to customers. Hopefully I am wrong.

Thats what I as curios about.
Tropic offers Zoo mix that has to be used all at once.
I should probably just call them and ask but I think your both right
Kinda nice that the wifes new job can save me some cash

I think IO does the same thing. They will provide salt to lfs in a clear bag and cheap price. My understanding it is the same salt as in their other packages. As with any change though, I believe, go slow and keep a close eye out for any changes.

He was at the boston MACNA, but he's been pretty busy with real world work. :)

They do, and it is the same salt. It comes in a box with four bags in it, 50 gallons each bag. It's also a lot cheeper.

Randy - I use Oceanic now but would like to switch to something that is a little easier to get. What do you think about switching from Oceanic to Instant Ocean. What types of problems can I expect?

something that is a little easier to get.

Not to step on Randy's toes but I stopped using IO/RC because of the way the new fomula desolved and had some algae probs. in my tank.

Now there are some folks that swear by Oceanic but more that call it crap

Personally I'm Thinking about using Oceanic, at the price I can get just to cycle things then go back to Tropic.

Randy
I'm glad to hear Craig is still around. When I got got back in first thing I did was hit usenet looking for him and a few others

I don't think you'd experience any problems, except needing more calcium and less alkalinity. :)

Tropic Marin is certainly a fine choice as far as I know. :)
