The regular monthly MARS meeting will be held on Friday, October 20, 2006 at Roundtable Pizza, 9500 Greenback Lane, Folsom, CA 95630 at 7:00 pm.

The speaker for this month will be ERIC BORNEMAN who will be speaking on "CORAL IDENTIFICATION". Eric will also be happy to talk about his salt study during the Q&A session or after the meeting.

This will be an exciting opportunity, and we look forward to seeing you at the meeting!

Looking forward to it.

Thanks James!

Not to take anything away from James for taking over many duties that have been left vacant due to the BOD disintegration, but we can all thank Marc Daniels for his hard work in booking Eric Borneman.

Thank you Marc! Hopefully we will see you on Friday night.

I was confused by Rich's comment, so I looked back through my e-mails to/from Eric. I sent Eric ""How's October or November? Our meetings would be 10/20 or 11/17, how do those look for your schedule?".

Eric responded a few days later with "Looks like October 14 is a good date."

I didn't catch that Eric had stated the wrong date..so yes a big thanks to James for getting it straight with Eric.

silly borneman.

no matter if it was marc or james for getting borneman here and/or for setting things straight-- i still appreciate the time and effort put forth to get him booked for us. i've now seen paletta, calfo, dr. ron, and tyree via the local clubs' (MARS and BAR) meetings... pretty darn cool, if you ask me.

Coral ID . . . So how does this work? Do we bring pictures of stuff we have, that we need to ID, or is he going to give us a special system that shows us the secret to identifying things? There's just so much stuff out there.

I cant speak of the program that Borneman and MARS have agreed to for the presentation, but Im sure he'd be willing to take a crack at a pic afterwards. And xia, theres no secret :( Just need access to databases that contain the identifying factors of genus's and species, and access to a good microscope. and a working knowledge of the taxonomy of corals :)

Coral ID? Not sure how it's supposed to work. Can't we just name everything after ourselves? Unfortunately for me, someone has already used my name in identifying a zoa... Herman Red! Couldn't they have picked a better coral?

I also think we can just call everything LE and Tyree, Tyrone and Tyrese this and that. Those IDs always seem cool...

I'm looking forward to the meeting.

Yeah, as long as others are tagging corals with their names (and other funky ID's), I'm going to begin doing the same and see how much more ridiculous we can make this!!!

I love the coral naming. Easier to remember than the latin names, sometimes.

Anyway, I'm still looking for the solid blue Tyree Aiptasia:lol:

Totally one of my favorite meetings, Eric Is such a nice guy. I learned alot of stuff at that meeting.
