Octopus HB100SS Skimmer

I've heard its pretty good and have seen pics of the skimmate from one member. He said it performed well but was very noisy. But to me......it looks like a bakpak and i'm not crazy about them. I still think the bermuda HOT skimmer is the best option if you have to get one, or go with an external skimmer.

Its tough to spend that much on a hot skimmer imo. Hmmm, the cheaper hot's out there would be the typhoon or the ps160 for a 75 or less. I'd say the ps160 would work for a 75g or less and the typhoon for a 55 or less. Both are < 100 bux. I just got a ps160 sent to me for very cheap. I could pass it along your way if you need it. I was just going to test it vs my via aqua sk388, but am always willing to help out a reefer if need be.

IMO, just stay away from the bakpak, remora or remora pro. They are proven duds. Along with the seaclown, and a list of many others.

I appreciate the offer luke33 but I think the PS160 would be way huge for my 29g. I just tried the Typhoon and it committed the cardinal sin of leaking and no matter how hard I tried the water level adjustment knob wouldn't work properly so i am sending it back. Luckily i tested it in a 5g bucket and not on my tank. I know this may have been an isloated incident but it's made me too nervous to try another one. I was seriously thinking about a Tunze 9002, it's not too expensive (for a Tunze) and I believe it would fit well on/in my tank. What do you think?

I was going to suggest a tunze but there usually above the 200 threshold you had : ) Waaaay better than most hot skimmers, if not all. I would definately suggest the tunze. For a 29g there are many options that would work that are fairly cheap. Even the ps75 would work for around 30bux. I personally always go overboard with skimming.
