Octopus

You have to have a species only tank with a tight fitting lid. They also tend not to live very long. Try the cephalopod forum here for more info.

The biggest problem with an octopus is that they can squeeze through tiny gaps just slightly wider than the only hard part in their body which is their beak. Having such a tight fitting lid creates serious logistical problems that are not easily overcome. Also, they only live for a couple years at most. I would love to have one myself but the lid issue is hard to get around.

What do you mean logistical problems? I can lid the top of the tank closed. Do you think it would be a problem with it getting into my overflow box or return pluming?

My friend kept one in a hexagon tank, and it would rarely crawl out of the tank (which wasn't even covered with a lid). The water was about 8" from the top. He told me the octopus climbs on the glass but never leaves the tank. The only problem he had was the ink, massive water changes...
