Odd feather duster behavior?

I bought my first feather duster last week. I found him a perfect home in a piece of live rock, he opened up about half an hour after putting him in the tank. But now he doesn't come out at all during the day. I have seen him out when the lights are off but still only sometimes. The top of his 'tube' looks like its closing in if that makes any sense. Is this type of behavior typical? Or is he going through some kind of phase? I thought maybe he would like a different spot in the tank but he has attached himself in the spot I first put him.

Any help or info would be great.
Thanks

If this is in high water flow, you may need to move it. If there's algae growing near the opening, you will need to pick at the algae. Or just give it some time to get use to the surroundings. And they won't open if anything is too close to their opening, especially when you just introduced it.

I had one that took almost 2 weeks to open and then the tube just vanished. Later, I noticed it created a new tube in that area and it's been fine ever since. And then I bought another type just recently and it opened up the first couple of hours. Good luck!
