Odyssea PC light noisy?

I have a new 24" 130watt Odyssea power compact light - the fans are built in and run whenever the light is on.....the fan is noisy and quite annoying. Anyone else have this problem? I have a 60 gallon deep tank w/canopy and was going to get another 24" for the other side, but I don't want another noisy fan running.

I had the 48" version and had to slide a small piece of plastic in between the fan and mounting bracket. It was a pain to get it in there but was quite after that.

The light is sitting directly on top of the tank (no glass tops), but inside the canopy. Canopy is open in the back and I also have it open on the top - there's two smoke colored glass tops for the top of the canopy, but I've left those off because the heat of the lights.

You could replace the fans with some quieter ones, but most 40mm fans make a fair amount of noise because they're small and need to run at high RPM for any significant airflow. I replaced the ones in my 30" Odyssea fixture when the originals failed, but they were still relatively noisy.

You might try some larger fans that can run over the fixture and then unplug the factory fans. When my fans failed, I took a small desk fan and put it on top of the enclosure (easier since I have an open top) and the case stayed approximately the same temperature as it did when I had the original fans in it. You could try running a few fans exhausting out the back and then leave the glass top on your canopy open slightly to allow cool air to come into it.

The fans are on the same cord as the light. The second cord is only for the moonlights. I could easily set a small desk fan on top, but I don't know how I'd disconnect the built-in fans.

Gotta open it up. :) On my unit there were four screws on the end. The new models look like they have the fans at the top, however. Look for screws and pull it apart and you should be able to get to them.
