Off topic - buying a SUV

Mazda is a ford drivetrain. Just so you know. But as I mentioned I have not seen a bunch of issues with the new fords. I also own a 01 sienna and as far as I am concerned its one of the best cars on the rd. 200,000 and i have not even put a spark plug in it. Front brakes 2 times and a serpentine belt. Thats it. I personally dont see why anyone wants an SUV for a daily driver. If you want the benifit of something larger with the space then buy a mini van. Same thing as most of the SUVs today yet more versatile

We looked at the Hyundai Santa Fe, Tucson, Toyota rav4, Ford Edge and Chevy Traverse

My wife just bought the ford Edge Omg I love it. And honesty thing has more pickup than I expected thing hauls *** (if that what your into lol). But no The edge is a lot bigger than I though it has lots of room for it size. Oh and the things handles awsome. Just go take one for a test drive you will love it. (No I not a ford Fan Boy Just because I have a mustang)

I hate the idea of owning an SUV, but my wife won that argument. We ended up with the new explorer. We are transporting 2 kids and a large dog. The Edge sized SUVs were way too small. Everything else that appealed to us was at least 30% more money.

So what did you end up with, we decided against it because of money and bought a car. But when my wife's lease is up we will look at a SUV again

Not sure if anyone has ever driven one, but just this past weekend I was in charge of a buddy's bachelor party. We were heading to the keys and so I rented a Buick Enclave from Hertz. I must say I was mighty impressed with it. Smooth ride, tons of options, all kinds of bells and whistles and EXCELLENT fuel mileage. The model we drove down there was the AWD V6 and I got a consistent 430-435 miles to the 20-21 gallon tank. I own a 2005 double cab V6 Tacoma and I'm lucky if I break the 300 mile mark in my 19-20 gallon fill ups. Just figured I would throw that out there.

We have a 2014 Highlander

We have a 2014 Highlander

Anyone here driving or purchased a 2015 highlander?

This is our 3rd one and it this is the best one yet. 23 MPG its built on the camary frame so it has a great ride.
My mom bought a Mazda CX6 and she loves it.

Side note Toyota, Honda, and Kia are employing twice as many Americians right now than "american car companies". Most Fords and Chevys are assembled in Mexico or Canada. Dont believe? go by a Chevy or Ford dealership and see for yourself.

Two parter here.

If you're talking about dealerships employing more people, watch how many of them actually stand around with nothing to do. Overstaffed and under worked. I've worked for Ford, Nissan and currently Mercedes-Benz, and this is predominately a large company policy (Auto Way, Courtesy, etc) and not so with smaller locally owned dealers (Parks, Bill Currie, etc).

As for the "Most" Fords and Chevys being assembled in Mexico, this is not the case.

Vehicles that American car companies make for the American market are usually assembled in the USA. There are a few plants in Mexico, and Canada, but for the most part the USA. Understand that Ford and Chevy are absolutely huge overseas, as Fords EU market and their subsidiaries are much larger than their US market in vehicle productions and sales. GM consists of some very large companies overseas, such as Opel, Vauxhall, and Holden.

A LOT of the new cars you see entering the US market are based off these companies overseas vehicles. (With the main exception being engine choices) The Focus for example was a massive success in Europe, and was just kinda 50/50 here for a LONG time. The 2011 Focus was launched as kind of like a worldwide vehicle with very minor differences depending on country. (As opposed to two different products being manufactured in two different places carrying the same name).

No I'm only talking about manufacturing and assembly. But no worries just next time your at a ford or chevy dealership look at the white stickers showing where the parts are from and assembly took place.

I do. Every single day. But no worries. Being built in America just doesn't mean that much anymore.

We just bought a Chevy Traverse LTZ. It comes with a 100,000 mile powertrain warranty. Can't really beat that and it there was much room for discounting compared to the explorer or highlander. The Lamda platform GM SUV's are also a little bigger than all the competition, so you can pack more stuff in the back and still have room for 4-7 people. I personally hate all GM products except for a few of the new caddys, but you really can't beat the size/feature/price ratio. We loved the options and ride of the new highlander, but they were not offering any discounts so when you include safety features like a blindspot sensor and collision avoidance, you are talking about the limited model and spending 47 grand for a toyota. No thank you. At that price there are a ton more options out there

I also loved the explorer, but the same thing, to equip it with saftey features and back seat video system you are pushing 47 grand and like Toyota that warranty is only 60,000 miles. The other plus is with the towing package it can tow 5500 pounds.

We did have some problems with it though. It could not be driven off the lot until they fixed a couple recall issues related to seat belts and they had to wait a week for parts. Then when we did drive it off the lot there was a vibration in the steering wheel at highway speed. After 3 sets of tires and 3 months the vibration stopped, but GM service departments are horrible. It looks to completely be a defect with the tires so I can't blame GM for it as much as I would like too. It seemed to affect the other Lambda top trim levels that have the 20 inch wheels. There are a few threads on internet message boards about it. They only offer Bridgestones at that size so you are stuck with only this tire and I don't personally like it. the 20 inch rims look real nice though.

I also think the interior is a bit dated across all of the lambdas, I don't understand the price difference between them as they all offer the same dated interiors, with the buick looking a little better, but still stuck in the 90's.

I did love the Highlander the best all around but it was only moderately larger than the kia. I am overall happy with the chevy purchase, though it has done nothing to change my opinion of GM products/quality in general. Since we were so crunched for space in the Kia, we really like the extra room it offers, the warranty, and most important the price.
