well since the socal reefers is the a great source for almost anything. I am looking for some good books for dieting and such. I recently have been diagnosed as a type one. doing the insulin 2 times a day. way sucks I hate needles but getting used to them. I am wondering any reefers have some good recommendations for reading and such. every book I find is more targeted for the type 2 peeps. not to stereo type but this is usually for the overweight and heart conditions people. I know I can still lead a normal life with good exercise and diet. I am just looking for a few opinions
thanks in advance.

mods if you feel this tread is unappreciated please let me know.

Type 2 Diabetes is alot more common. Your problem is that your body no longer makes insulin because of either some environmental factor or autoimmune disorder. Can't think of any good books for the non-professional off the top of my head, but if I find any out I'll be sure to send you a msg.

Good that you've decided to take control by controlling your diet. Controlling your blood sugars is vital in controlling your outcome. Most people just give up from the start and think that someone else will take care of everything else...

Monitor your sugars, keep logs and always bring in the logs so your healthcare professional can see any trends so that adjustments can be made to your insulin therapy. AND DON'T EVER RE-USE YOUR SYRINGES!!!

there is a whole lot of good reading available on the internet. Also, one of the pharmacists i work with is certified in diabetes training and gives monthly seminars on many different aspects of it. im sure there is someone there in your area as accessible as the neighborhood pharmacist that can provide the information youre looking for and address any questions you havent been able to find the answers to.

also, as far as buying a good meter, look out for rebates or huge discounts on them. alot of times you can walk away with the meter for free. the strips are really going to be the expensive part if you havent found that out already. call your health insurance provider to find out if they cover diabetic supplies. it will help to cut down on the high cost of testing often. if anything, have your doctor call in a prescription for them to a pharmacy...that way...even if your insurance doesnt cover the strips, you can avoid paying tax on the strips just by picking it up in the pharmacy. (dont tell the feds i told you that part)

best of luck to you in managing your condition.
