off topic - window replacement

In last Monday's storm we found out the hard way that one of the basement windos is busted (in the windo well). Fortunately none of my fish stuff was on the floor. It scared the crap oout of me that it was the tanks or somethig related at first, but it was way too much water for that.
Anyone know a good place to get basement windows? Thinking glass block for the 3 small ones and one regular window for the big one.
No idea who to call for this. Appreciate any recommendations.
Thanks!

Menards sell glass block window kits and glass block windows. If this was a month ago I could have given you a brand new one. I threw it out becasue no one wanted it.

Menards and Home Depot both sell basement windows to replace the ones that come standard in houses. They can be ordered to fit too.

I don't know. I looked at the replacements at Menards and I liked them but I didn't have the money to get them so that was the end of my research. I might have to do it though at some point. My metal frames are showing signs of rust. The ones I saw at Menards were vinyl coated aluminum frames which equals no rust.

I just got 6 glass block windows (with a vent in each) for $1200 installed through Hardy Glass Block. I believe they are located around 103rd south and Halsted in Chicago. This company has been around for awhile and I got the recommendation from a friend of mine that owns a glass company.

I replaced the windows in our basement with vinyl windows like the ones you can buy at menards.

It is pretty easy as they fit right inside the metal frame.

The only issue you might run into is there may be little 'bumps' on your existing metal frames to act as 'pivot points' for the old style windows that tilt in at the top when you pull a little loop down. If you have those and want to goto nicer windows you will have to grind those off but it isn't very difficult.

As a side note I have 2 extra vinyl windows left over from our basement finishing (they were from www.scenicwindowwells.com who doesn't sell them anymore). It's a long story but I had ordered one too many and the second extra one came from not getting used as we wound up having a contractor cut out the foundation to create a new egress window out of one of the existing small windows.

If you are interested PM me and I can get you the dimensions. My wife and I are about to throw them out or find somewhere to donate extra construction supplies.

Lactose - THANK YOU! I will take a photo of the main window in question and measure it and send along this evening.
