I have about 500 gallons of water -reef, mostly sps. All of my expensive corals are starting to die over the last month. At first it was just a couple then some of the tyrees, superman then the green slimer that can live in almost any condition.
Well I finally figured it out. My temp controller is bad, as well as my chiller must not be chilling. I knew my chiller was running too much (1hp coolreef) and (I can't find coolreef anymore?-gone). I know my temp was rising but not sure how high, put a box fan on my sump blowing straight down onto the water. With the additioinal window a/c on and the fan blowing my temp must have been getting very cool. But the temp controller kept saying 79 to 80. So this morning the controller said 68. I freaked out went and got an old cheap temp guage and it said 78.
So now I now the problem. The water temp is not stable. Is there anything I can do to help my corals now other than make sure the water temp is stable? For the last couple of weeks I have checked all the parameters and eveything is acceptable.
Wait it out? or any other suggestions?
