OK to add 2 clowns at same time...

I have a 72 gal, that is completely cycled, looking to add my first fishes. I wanted to add two Clarkii's at the same time. Will that put too much load on my tank, adding them at same time? I think I am being too cautious, but does not hurt to ask.

no not at this point, I will eventually add one. I wanted to get some fish in first. I have enough lighting and everything.

but to ansewer your question no adding 2 at the same time wont hurt anything
i added a yellow tang and a bta and 2 damsells and the same time
and its been about 2 weeks nothing spiked in my tank

Go ahead and add both clowns at the same time, 75 gal is quite enough to handle it specially if it's completely cycled, although QT is even better, at least three weeks to make sure you don't get anything nasty into your tank, and if the fish are sick or by any reason you have to catch them it's always easier in the QT than in the main tank. If you have enough light go ahead with the anemone, but clowns can get along very well in our virtual reefs without one.

Thanks, I was thinking about adding the BTA and two clowns all at the same time, but I figured that is too much at once.

i bought two percs from a lfs and put them in at the same time. these two seemed to already be good friends amongst a group of 8-10 percs at the lfs. they have been fine.

If the tank is just finished cycling then its probably not ready for an anemone I would give it atleast a few more months. Not sure how long you've had marine tanks, but the anemone also doesnt do well fluctuating tank params, so waiting for husbandry skills to develop would be another reason as well. The clowns will be fine without a host.

Good decision :thumbsup: As long as you have enough LR and the clowns arent real big you should be fine. If you havent read the anemone FAQ at the top of the newbie forum now would be a good time.

Just checked to see what kind of clowns. Clarkiis are pretty cool they'll host in just about anything. I have two which are almost breeding age I think, they do get pretty aggressive so pick your tank mates wisely. I'm about to move mine into a dedicated tank partly because of the aggressiveness and also to isolate them for breeding.

That was one of the reasons I picked them, plus I like the way they look. I am thinking about keeping my tank pretty empty for quite some time, one BTA two Clarkii's for a long time. Then maybe add a wrasse and a bi-color blenny. Overall I am thinking 5 or so fish total.
