Ok went fallow b/c of Brook, now what?

So a few weeks ago treated my female clown for Brook. I just got the last fish out today, Royal Gramma. I've treated all the fish taken out with multiple Quick Cure formalin baths and just got Gramma started today. None of the other fish showed any symptoms, but did have a fire fish disappear shortly after the clown presented with symptoms. Now what?

1) Leave the tank fallow for 4 weeks?

2) Finish precautionary bathing the fish exposed and just observe?

3) Do you guys feed a fallow tank to keep beneficial bacteria around?

4) ?....missing anything?

Just did again, so fallow for eight weeks? Does the parasite really live in the water column that long without a host? I can understand ICh because of the cysts needing to go longer but also Brook?

The problem is that it is very difficult to diagnose brook versus uronema as they present in an almost identical manner. If you are sure, 4 weeks is fine, if you are not sure, I would go with the longer fallow period.

That thread has the original photos. I never saw defined margins. How concerned should I be? I trust your best estimate Snorvich.

I would hate to try and diagnose from those pictures. They are similar but dissimilar. Uronema does not require a fish host to complete the life cycle.

I wish I would have sampled the area before treatment. I'm probably going to gamble a bit and go shorter closer to 4 weeks, any longer rest of life is going to catch up including increased chances of divorce....

I went fallow six weeks after brook with no reoccurrence.

I just encountered a whole tank Los due to Brooklynella and read your article on Metronidazole. As a pharmacist I have endless supply does one still need to have tank run fallow for 6-8 weeks or can one shorten time? I've got a Midas Blenny left and he looks like hell but it's alive for 3 days I feed it by placing him in a fish net and letting the frozen shrimp pas by he's mouth then he eats it I dosed some metronidazole over the food and all over him and tank and 2 fresh water baths and he still going,seems to getting blind in one eye but I'll try everything to save him after losing all 8 other fish in 1 week.

Metronidazole is very effective if dosed internally via food. I would not dose an entire tank with it as the outcomes are unpredictable.
