Ok, what is my next step?

Hey all,

I finally went out and bought 55/60 1 gallon jugs of RO water from WM. I added all the water into my tank and mixed the salt. I also have the filter and PowerHead ( 1 for now) running.

My question is: WHat is my next step? Once I obtain the desired SG for my tank, whats next? Do I go ahead and add my substrate?

Thanks in advance!

In my 30 gallon, I did substrate, water, LR, inverts (hermits), wait 4 weeks, fish.

Will I have a problem adding substrate if my water is already in there? It should all settle : /

I added all my sand to my 100 gallon tank after I put the water in and it all settled. I would turn off the powerheads and filters because the sand can hurt the impellers. Also I would add live rock before the sand so that when you add sand you can bury the base of the rocks so they are more stable.

It'll settle, just give it a little time and turn everything off as recommended. Remember that the sand and rock will displace some of the water, so you may want to take some out before adding your substrate and rock.

IME, your next step is to decide what type of substrate you'd like, whether or not to go with a SSB, a DSB, or BB -- and IMO I'd add the LR at the same time, so you don't have to worry about triggering another cycle down the line.

Then get ready to start doing regular testing of ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate to see how your cycle is coming along :)
