Old Euro Reef skimmer issues...

I have a 15+ year old Euro Reef skimmer with dual Sedra 5000's on it and am having some issues.

One of the pumps seems to have died and I know in the past I could replace the pump with no issues. The issue now is the fitting where the pump fits in the side seems to be broken on both pumps.

The question would be is it really worth it to make some new grommets and try to find another pump or replace the whole thing with something new and possibly more efficient?

I have a 175 Bow Front Oceanic tank it is running a full reef on.

Thanks,

Mike.

As an old Euro Reef user myself its hard to give up on old "proven" equipment. However in this case I think I would invest in a newer style skimmer. Perhaps looking at a unit with a DC pump. Most are very quiet, have adjustable flow and require less power to run. There are many options available anymore and I'm sure if you want some brand options that people recommend they can pipe in. IMO I would move on from the ER.

I have a buddy that just found a used one with a system purchase, and of course he loves it.
I had to move on from my ER/RD units.. I love my skimz that I have now.. As efficient and flexible as the RD, but silent! So that may be one realistic option..

Thanks for the info. I am looking at the Skimz skimmers which one would be a good fit for my tank?

Wow! That skimmer says its rated for 250+ gallons at a heavy load. Thinking it might be a bit much. I was looking at the SM203 and a couple others that have the DC pumps in the 200 gal size.

I have a 180 display and am running the dual pump sm251..

Lol, it is, but I tell you what.. I had the 203 on my 180,and it is what made me decide to go ahead with the 251.. And the thing also, is you never know when your going to add something.. I added a stock tub, so now my two is at 240.. So I had pellets on my system also, that I removed.. That was a factor too.. Given that, a moderately stocked 180,the 203 should be ok.. Lol, I'm just hooked on this one now (I just should be, since I purchased it.. Lol)..

Hey on a side note any idea what my old Euro Reef might be worth with 1 bad pump?

I can't find the model info on it but it is huge and has 2 Sedra 5000's on it.
