Old hydrometer was .04 off.

I was picking up supplies today at Petco & remember Paletta saying that you should replace your hydrometer regularly. Needless to say I checked my water when I got home & the new hydrometer read 1.029. The old one read 1.025. Need to add some fresh water now.

try soaking your old one in vinegar and freshwater overnight.

I hate hydrometers, mine was reading .06 too low... so I was running my tank at 1.031 for awhile

Mine was .06 off of actual as well. Would be nice to test your new hydrometer against a refractometer and see if it's off to begin with.

My hydrometer is off .03 from Waverz refractometer. Ex. mine reads 1.023 against 1.026 on his refractometer. So I just correct for it now that I know how far it is off. Also every time I use it I rinse it out real good with RO water to get all the salt off it.
