Old Orchard Aquarium Can Bite Me!

Was told they had a Peacock Mantis in stock so I called them up this morning thinking my search was finally over for a new mantis. But, when I called they refused to give me a price over the phone and told me I would have to come in to see how much is was.

I refuse to drive an hour just to find out it's overpriced.

What a bunch of jerks.

yea they told me they had a copperband ....but no price on the phone...so i drove an hr to find out they didn't have one and it was overpriced....bogus store....i don't go there anymore....

Its kind of strange how there can be a 30$ or more price difference for the same fish in stores less than 30 miles away from each other....Oh yeah but "WE" go down and personally select all of our fish...sure!

MM- right on! Picked up my Goldentail moray for $50 from Sho Tank yesterday, went to Petland in Naperville today and saw the same eel but smaller for $199. Matt doesn't try to screw people on livestock like these other places do.

Zoalander, I Just looked at the website for sharkys and I am not too sure that's a peacock mantis. Unless they have a different one there or thats a real crappy picture.

NP Fishman, I dont know too much about mantis shrimp. I'm sure Dennis will be able to answer your question.

I will also never go to Old Orchard ever again due to their attitude and high prices.

Matt at Shotank does have very good prices on fish and LR and not to mention great prices on used equipment.

I agree.. STUPID policy.. but cool store.. they have a ton of stuff.. but HIGH HIGH Prices... much like living sea.. I just go there to look

I called a while back on a yellow head jawfish and thye wouldnt give me the price on the phone.. I pitched fit asked for the manager called like 5 times... I finally said if it were anymore then a certain amount (I forget what I said now) that they'd wish they told me on the phone lol since they are close to an hour away.... turned out it was a little high but I bought it anyway.. it died like two days later :-(

There's absolutely NO reason they couldn't give you a price over the phone. Making customers drive there to find out they don't have the fish or that it's over priced or unhealthy will just irritate customers. Unfortunately, I have found a few lfs that have hesitated or refused to give prices over the phone. In those cases I just look elsewhere.

Hey Guys/Ladies, I go to Old Orchard a lot, well.........not as much as I'd like to! But cash wise, I agree, but they do have great service there, guess cause I used to be a former "reefer" in other ways, Money there does not always talk, trust me. They are overpriced in a lot of ways, but I've gotten my RC water from them for almost a year and it's alway's been great, BTW....guy with the beard that looks like my hair, this is T from Niles, you're cool man. I agree with people here, but.........you know..........some reefers DO have to work for a living and not just be obsessed with reefs like I was last summer when I first got involved......besides, look at the prices that Old Orchard Aquarium has to pay to rent/own that space there in that outlet of the world, BIG $$$$$$$$$$ That's the same reason why I pay inflated prices to live where I do........5 minutes away Great area to live the NorthShore.....great schools, good jobs = buying whatever you want at times from an LFS, but most importanty Angel925 from EBAY and Sharky's I usually love ripping on LFS's, but, they are alright once you get to know them, just like Jan and Mike at LS......but..........big BUTTTTTTTTTTTT..........they have junk corals! Just my .02 worth.

At least give Old Orchard a chance at their new frag tanks, pretty cool if you ask me, although, PLEASE DO NOT call me an advocate of them! Tell you the truth, the biggest joke of and LFS in pricing is FISH PLANET located on Waukegan Road in Deerfield. My penny's worth this time!
