OMG - He is so cute

you know you have to name him after me, even though he is a boy! :)

these are the coolest little fish, you will love him.

No doubt! LD, maybe? Dasil?

When I opened the bag he was upside down and I panicked a little. However, after a few minutes in acclimation he righted himself and now he's swimming around his QT like he owns the place. Yay!

That's great news! My last name is Darmo, any ideas from that? Just kidding about the naming. I hope you enjoy him! I love this species.

Ok, so he's not eating. I've offered mysis, cyclopeeze, and arctipods. I've got live rock in QT with him, along with a big hunk of chaeto from a well-established refugium, so I'm hoping there are enough little critters for him to graze on.

Any suggestions?

I just bought the other one ;]

if he still isn't eating, try frozen mussel cubes
they sell in the frozen sections of most pet stores, with a boxfish on the front of the package to boot

i remember that was the key to get my female spotted boxfish to eat
she really devoured those guys.

These fish only get 4". IMO they are idea for 55 to 90 gallon sized tanks. You don't want to keep them with a lot of fast aggressive fish - though mine do fine against three puffers. :)

Have you tried frozen Spirulina brine (Hikari) and small Hikari mysis? These guys have relatively small mouths, and seem to like to pick at first. My male didn't eat much for several days, almost a week. He is first to the trough now, but he still loves those tiny mysis. His mate, who I've had a while, goes after evertything.

I think I actually do have some spirulina brine. I'll give it a try.

Edit: Well, no dice. He looks at it, even follows it, but doesn't seem to want to eat it. I'm wondering if he would go for live brine. Hmm. I may have some brine shrimp eggs somewhere, maybe I'll hatch some and try that.

He's still picking at the rocks and I saw him poop last night, so I'm hoping he's eating something.

Give it a little time. Sometimes they'll be a bit finicky for a while, but with cowfish and boxfish I've always had luck with offering that seafood medley you can pick up at a local supermarket (the uncooked stuff that is, lol). Mussels, clams, scallops might work. Maybe some finely chopped shrimp?

Good luck with the boxfish though, I absolutely love boxfish and cowfish (My favorite fish is my longhorn cowfish affectionately named "moomoo" by my sister)

Update - I got some live adult brine to get him eating *something.* He just stared at them at first but now he's actively pursuing them and snarfing them down. What a relief.

Now I just have to slowly mix the live brine with frozen mysis to teach him to eat the good stuff.

Anyone have any tips on how to keep these silly brine shrimp alive until I they meet their tiny-mouthed doom?

I noticed mine hasn't been eating directly out of the water column,
it's like the floating food is intimidating him.
However, I did observe him eat a few frozen pieces off the sandbed and rock work today; he loves to pick at the rocks.

I'm so pleased with this purchase, he's adorable!
I hope you're enjoying yours just as much. :D

Torno - I'm so glad yours arrived in good shape. It sounds like he's going to be fine.

I love this fish.
