? on purchase-mistake?

A group of us back in January did a group buy from you. All good, good service all the way. But the coral I bought is not what it looks like on your site. I thought it may need time to color back up but now I'm not to sure. So far it is growing well it just has little color. I have it under XM 10K and URI atinic’s and it is of to the side on the sand bed 12" deep.

Will this color up as it is shown on your site or did I get the wrong coral?

The Purple Passion Tree Coral can come in a few different colors. After viewing the picture it looks like you have received a pale yellow or gold Neospongodes sp. Just curious as to the care of this coral, your site states easy but I've been unable to find much info elsewhere and what I have found makes it sound rather difficult. Will it survive off light alone or does it need to be fed regularly?

Thank you for your question and interest in this coral. The Purple Passion Tree Coral depends on the symbiotic algae, zooxanthellae, hosted within its body. These provide the majority of its nutritional requirements. It will also benefit from additional feedings of micro-plankton, baby brine shrimp, or foods designed for filter feeding invertebrates on a weekly basis. The Passion Tree Coral has a medium light requirement so we would recommend the tank to have between 3-5 watts per gallon and they also need a direct or slightly offset water flow from a nearby powerhead for optimal health.

Just to add to the information Cassie has supplied, the Purple Passion Tree Coral is very hardy unlike Dendronephthya. It is photosynthetic, as she has pointed out, but prefers moderate lighting such as T-5 or PC's. If kept under metal halides it should be placed under an over hang so it receives indirect lighting. It does best in nutrient rich water with good flow. In the Coral Farm we keep it in the same system as the soft corals (Xenia, Leathers, Polyps, etc.).

XM 10k bulbs put out an immense amount of PAR. Great for SPS corals, but too much for your Purple Passion Tree Coral. It appears to be bleached, but should recover nicely if moved under an over hang to limit the light it is receiving.

I do have the coral off to the side of the tank and not in direct light. It has been there for about three weeks but I will move it to a back corner and see how it goes. Thanks for the info

Gwen I PM'd you the order that this coral was purchased on since it still looks different to me. I guess the order can be here for S&G's for now I will give it a few more weeks and contact you agin if it does not turn purple.
