? on uncured live rock

I am setting up a new tank.

I started with 120# of cured live base rock. It is in the tank with circulating saltwater.

I have just received some premium uncured Fiji LR. It was literally just taken off the shore and is very muddy and dirty. I would like to clean it before placing it in with the cured rock. I am not concerned about curing and cycling time - this is a new setup with no livestock.

I would like some practical suggestions on getting the mud and dirt off the rock before placing it in the tank...

I assume that I should use saltwater - would just a through rinse in saltwater do the trick? Any other suggestions?

Thanks.

This is an excellent instructional guide to curing live rock. My reef tank is still just a dream in my head. But i have done substantial planning and reading up on it. I found this to be the best guide on curing live rock and the curing proceedure outlined here is the one i would use whether starting a new tank or adding LR to an established one.

In other words, i'd just treat the situation like you're adding this LR to an established tank with things living in it already. It will be cleaner and should save you on some water changes. It will also permit you to cure the stuff in a rubbermade bin in your garage rather in your nice DT containing all of your cured stuff.

I would just use a garden hose. Get as much organic material off the rock as you can. Also, if it was pulled out of the mud on the shore I would be somewhat wary of chemical contamination.
