Do you have any growth? I have had a two head 'colony' for about two and a half years now. PE seems fine to me, but I expected some additional heads by now.

That is not sun coral either its a type of branching dendro that requires cold water (68 or lower). Look up Cladopsammia gracilis for proper care.

Here is an article on it.

I hope your going to be able to keep it alive but my guess is it will never open up and will starve in a couple of months. I tried with this type of coral but i am not able to keep my tank cold enough year around.

My dendro is one of my favorite corals. I love watching them eat. It's fun to watch when the hermit crabs release their babies. The dendro snatches them up as fast as it can.

+1. I have a colony that was doing OK but now its closed up but not looking particularly good now. I had some success with polyp extension using a modified Tupperware method BUT waiting until the water cooled down to about 70. Its modified in the sense that instead of a small Tupperware container, I used a small 5 gallon tank with a small powerhead pointed at the coral. Problem is once you put it back in your display it will eventually stop feeding again.

Its a sun coral/dendro in a technical sense (arguable) - under WORMS (WOrld Registry of Marine Species) its synonymized with Tubastraea coccinea titjimaensis and dendrophyllia gracilis.

You see them in LFS all the time now - not sure that is a good thing.

Yep, a local fish store near me brought some in and I tried to explain to them why it would not last and to worn purchasers of its cold water needs. A shame we keep pulling them out and putting into near 80 degree tanks.
