Hello guys,

This is regarding a colony of Zoas that are not opening for last 1.5 weeks.. there were fine for about 2 weeks after they were introduced to the tank.. Another colony that sits right beside is doing perfectly fine.. I tried moving this one around, gave a melafix dip but nothing came out, iodine dip nothing as well, checked at night with flashlight to see any critters but none.. I am completely clueless what could be wrong with these.. The Nitrates a quite high in my system but all the other corals are doing perfectly fine except this one..The parameters are

Salinity - 1.023
PH - 8.0
Cal - 480
ALK - 12
Magnesium - don't have a test kit yet(planning to get one soon)
Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 60 ppm (using water changes and no3po4 doing to bring it down)

Sorry unable to upload pictures somehow.. will try later once back home.. meanwhile any help will be appreciated..

I recommend keep working on getting those nirates down, also I would bring down the Alk to 8-9. I would bring the salinity up to around 1.025-26. I notice you said that there is a colony beside the one not opening. I have read that they can fight for space, so I don't know how close they are. IME, some zoas are different than others, some of mines like low light and some like little more moderate light and flow. Just have to keep playing with it, but not too much, it might already be stressed out. Let it be for awhile and see how it does.

Thanks a lot for your reply.. yes I am trying No3po4 dosing now for reducing nitrates... as you said will give it sometime.. and then will try to move around again..

How is the flow across them?

I have had 2 colonies just close up and melt away in the past month. No idea why, or what affected them. CHeck everything. Chemistry, watch for predation, etc....

The flow is medium.. They are placed at the bottom.. I checked for pests with a flashlight but didn't see any...
