One thing this hobby has taught me is that your only as strong as your weakest link. This morning I had been admiring the tank and refuge and started to play to section off a section of my refugium to use as a grow out area. When I got back from Home Depot with some PVC, the powerhead that I have mounted for additional circulation had come loose. The suction cups gave way and the powerhead was pointing straight down. I didn't mention that I have a barebottom tank with a six inch sand bed in my refugium. Well the sand was everywhere ( OOlitic sand) Couldn't see in the main display refuge or sump for about 3 hours. Now I'll have to wait and see if their is any deathtoll. Tomorrow I'm going out and buying magnets to hold it in place. I use the Tunze magnets on the 6000 streams that I have in the display tank and they work great. It's amazing just when you think things are going well disaster hits. Makes you look at the tank and setup and look for the weakest links. Next I plan on getting rid of the flex tubing that came with my MRC calcium reactor and replace ith with 1/2 " PVC.
I know that I have to consider the emergency generator because that's a reality. Better size it for the whole house or try and explain to the wife that the fish tank, lights , pumps, chiller ect are running but we don't have A/C. a refrigerator, light, you get the idear.
