Open brain not inflating and not eating.

I got nothin'
What gives man? I bought this guy about a week or so ago, and like most of my corals, it looked great and then a few days later, it deflated and has not reinflated. I think it's a trach.

It also won't eat. I've placed food right on top of it and get no feeding response.

Is it dead? I know it doesn't need fed, but I was just curious to see if I got any type of response.

Two days after I brought it home:

have you tried putting it in different areas less light/flow. mine that I added 2 months ago did the same (looked great the first 2 days) so I moved it to partly shaded area and it started perking back up
 
I moved him underneat the sinularia. It's pretty shady down there. We will see if that works.

Shrug, maybe that's the problem with all the corals and why my polyp extension sucks. Maybe they are just getting too much light.

I need a par meter. Argh

Sinularia is looking good...did you move it or adjust flow? I've never had luck with brains like that. You run GFO right? I do also, maybe the water is too clean? If it perks up and thrives, let me know what your secret is. The only thing that you might want to be aware of...the sinularia leather is one of the meanest leathers when it comes to chemical warfare.
 
It is probably adjusting to your tank.Mine did that awhile when I first got it.Also they seem to tighten up(for lack of a better term)when they are growing.Mine has a couple of times and then opens up bigger then before.

OK, am I not seeing what you are. The brain doesn't look like it's dying. I don't see any recession, it just not puffed up. It's probably still getting used to your tank. You've had it a week Bent, I think you should just give it more time. As far as the Sinularia, that looks like a healthy leather that may just be shedding...probably just needs to be moved or the flow needs to be adjusted. I had one just like that and I lost track of all the times it would do that...weeks at a time then it always came back bigger and stronger. Your water looks good except for somewhat high phosphate. Maybe I'm just missing something but I don't see the doom and gloom that others apparently see

A lot of times they look like that after they poop..... the more important issue is the green finger leather that has not been happy for some time now.....
If it makes you feel any better, I have a green polyped toadstool that has not been happy for at least 2 years now. Won't die, but for some reason I can't make it happy. Everything else grows like a weed, go figure...
So rethinking it, maybe nothing is wrong Bent, It could quite possibly be that not every Coral is going to agree with our systems

Bent, you say that corals are open and then they close up after a few days in your tank...have you thought that it could all be a result of your sinularia? Like I said before, they are mean when it comes to chemical warfare (maybe the meanest leather) and since you think it's not happy, it may be bombarding your tank with those toxins. Have you thought of that? Do you run carbon? If you do, maybe run more or change it out more often. I always run carbon and I have a lot of leathers including a new sinularia. Just something else to consider. GL

When you said this...it got me thinking.

I think I've discovered the problem here, with all my polyp extension issues total.

This pic is right after I bought, what was labeled as, and what looked like a toadstool. See the guy dead center?...

Fast forward to today. It no longer looks like a toadstool. The more I look at it...im almost positive it's a devils hand, and last I checked Devils hands were extremely toxic. See pic from today:

I bet that this is the source of all my grief. Aren't they toxic to other corals, especially stony corals?
