Open brain not inflating and not eating.

If you think it's a chemical warfare thing, Seachem Purigen running along side GAC may be worthwhile. It's apparantly able to absorb larger chain molecules that aren't as easily scavenged by GAC. And I'm betting that the organic chemicals produced by softies are often larger long chained molecules. And it can be regenerated and used over & over. For w few bucks, it may be a worth a try.

I couldn't keep open brains alive when my aquarium was new. Now, no problem. All that's really changed besides general tank maturation is that I've decreased T5 intensity - probably by 1/4 to 1/3. Sometimes I'm astonished at how certain LPS corals thrive in less light, even in the presence of very low nutrients. And like said above, deflation doesn't necessarily equate with imminent death. They do take time to adjust. Mine didn't eat for w long time and then one night while feeding scoots & plates I saw the feeding tentacles.

It definitely sounds like you may be on to something. I hope you have figured out the problem.

You know looking back on my tank...a while ago I had a devil's hand in pretty close proximity to my neon green sinularia. The devil's hand shriveled up and eventually died. Maybe those two don't get along. Who knows but maybe.

Same thing happened to mine.

It was fine, feelers out, puffy at times for months. Then one day I could see some skeleton showing on the sides. It slowly disintegrated into nothing but the skeleton left over about the next week and a half. Not a clue as to what killed it. Not hing else has died in the tank (except for a shrimp that want MIA).

Yeah it's slowly desentegrating.

I've been told not to ever mess with it. Just leave it there, there is a chance it will regenerate eventually.
