opinions on walt smith

Half my rock is that stuff...not all the best shapes, but nice amount of life, and it colored up great.

Depends on the price. I got it for around $3/lb. If you are paying more, I'd want to pick it out visually myself if I were you.

I e-mailed them twice on information and pricing. They never got back to me. That's my experience with them.

I assumed they are wholesale only. I got it through a local place...

Over on WWM they had link to WS. I went to their web site and it said e-mail for pricing. So I asked about getting some live rock and how much for how much. They never got back to me. I said ok it's an imperfect world so I e-mailed again. Never heard anything. Gave up on them.

Here is the site.

I picked up 80 lbs of Walt Smith from a ebay seller for about $2.25 per pound. Seller was local so I got to pickout my rock with no shipping.

My hand picked rock looks great. The other rock in the tanks was pretty good. I just got the pick of the litter. Did the smell test on each rock so there was only a small cycle period.

Most rock had good coraline, some had creatures.

Could not beat the price.

I should clarify that YES I recommend them and am very happy with the rock. Just checked my receipt, and yes, I too paid $2.25/lb. Weird, what are the odds.

The vast majority of fiji live rock that comes into the US is from Walt Smith. They are the primary source for fiji live rock. (Possibly the only source). When it arrives at LAX, the boxes are then sent on to many retailers around the country. You're buying directly from the importer rather than a secondary retailer.
