I need a bigger skimmer but I don't have 5 or 600 to drop on a skimmer right now. What do think of running a euro reef RS 80 in the sump alongside my turbofloater multi? Or should I just save up and run one big skimmer?

I know nothing about differant skimmers, so no help there but I have a Seaclown and it works but is funny, and I don't mind having a skimmer that doesn't take out every last speck of stuff in my tank right away, if it did there would be nothing for my corals.

What im getting at is, Is your water very dirty or are you just being overweary, maybe the one skimmer you have just takes out the excess and would be fine on its own, im not sure of your whole situation, just thought id try to help.

It is working great always did on my 55 now I have a 180 gallons of water and it is just not keeping up. Euroreef has a RS80 for 178 bucks it is for a 80g tank but if I put it in the sump with the turbofloater it should be more then pleanty.

There have been some nice prices on used skimmers here on RC and ebay over the last few weeks. How about a used skimmer?????

Price-wise, the ASM and Coralife skimmers do a superb job. I don't think you could go wrong either way. Used is definitely cheaper!

Sending you a PM on the ASM...might be time to place another Custom Aquatic order.

BTW Brian,
I have a ASM G3 and love it.
Pulls a lot of gunk out of the water, I think even better than my Euroreef F1.

I can't imagine that running two skimmers would hurt anything. Just try to prevent both skimmer outputs from interfering with the others input water to help improve overall efficiency?

There are enough RC members that have 80 gallon or less tanks that would be interested in either of yours. Put them up for sale contingent on the arrival of your new skimmer. Make a 911 to santa and see what happens.

i bought a asm g3 also. its not up and running yet. limpit do you have the gate valve added on your g3 ?

I have a ASM G-4 And it works great. The only drawback is it is made out of thin acrylic and my collection cup slipped out of my hand and cracked. I used some weld on and it worked just fine on the cracks just a lot more careful with it now.

When I upgraded skimmers I kept the one on and added the other one. The old one was out skimmed and it stopped skimming.

I saw Makos ASM in action and it kicked butt.

I was reading up on skimmers awhile back and while everyone agreed the ASM and euro's were good they were all talking about an octopus that is a little cheaper I think and they said it worked as good as the others.
I thought I kept a link to the octopus but cant find it sorry. They werent much more than your talking now. I think around the 250 range for around a 150 gal.

DIY, would be awesome if acrylic tubes weren't so dam expensive.

Love to watch that little bubble typhoon!

Has anyone tried to build any of the DIY skimmers? I know I have been tempted many a times!

ASM was started by some people who used to work for EuroReef. Similar design, half the price.

The ASM skimmers are extruded PVC, not acrylic. You should be able to use PVC glue to fix them...

I was always going to do the gate valve mod but never got around to ordering one.

Have any of you seen this thread?

It's being nominated right now for thread of the month along with a cool onyx raising thread.
It's about a DIY skimmer this guy built but it's huge lol.

I read parts of it and admit I was pretty much lost from the beginning lol but was very interesting what this guy did to his impeller to make it push more air.
I would like to try it if I can understand more what he used exactly. I dont wanna wreck my impeller to try it though cuz it's on it's last limb already.

I did the mod to my skimmer but didn't use any valve. I can't really figure out what the valve is supposed to do it seems to work fine just with the piping.
