They actually do not live in the Sea of Cortez. Their southern most area is Magdalena Bay and that isn't really "tropical". They range from there up to about Santa Barbara.

They (Haliotis fulgens) are a smaller species, max out about half the size of a red @ around 5-7"

thanks for the clarification gresh, I stand corrected. I was just going off of what the guy told me at Green marine (where i bought it). anywho, he's still lookin like dinner in about a year. i just need to fatten him up a little:D

Was it Jim or his partner? Jim knows better, I told him all about this weeks ago and gave him the same link.

I had one and he didn't make it in summer....if you read more on them they like cooler water my tank was running 81 for a few days and maybe a bit higher during summer and he didn't make it after like 4 months. Make sure he gets tons of nori and will probable hide during the day. They have one at Northbay right now. My other problem is I have a cow fish that eats all snails. I can only keep the big Mexican snails cause they suck down hard enough that he can not get them off. I'd get rid of him but my GF loves him......gurrr.
BTW: I've still been working on my tank giving it 1-2 hours a night and it's still coming but I think I'll be ready for the April meeting. This has taken about 3 times as much time as I thought and 2 times the money. But it's very close all i need to do is finish the canopy and wire the lights.
