Orange Monti Cap ????

I have a Orange Cap and insted of raising up into a bowl shape it seems to be headed towards the bottom of the tank. Its bright, healthy and grows quickly so what gives? Not enough light or a water flow issue?

I had an orange cap that did the same thing. IMO, it was the way the water flow was in the tank. I had plenty of flow but it was growing with the flow.

So should the flow be faster or slower, less flow or more?

without a picture its hard to tell . probably "less direct" is a better term . good flow is always a good thing i.m.o - what kind of lights / reflector are we talking here , and wheres the placement of the piece ...

4x54w t5ho Tek lighting on a std 55g. The Monti is about 18 from the light, its mounted to a big piece of LR. It gets flow across it, not strong though.

sounds ok , i had my orange cap on the left side of one of my 40 breeders for a few weeks and ended up moving it around 10 " from the surface in the center .. running a 175 se metal halide with a crappy reflector . maybe yours needs a bit more light too , mine is now curling to the light and has all kinds of new growth. does your setup have individual reflectors ? if not , i would say move it up for sure . have you checked your parameters lately ?

Yes, they have individual reflectors, but more light might not be a bad idea. I have a superman monti up top and its doing well. I have not checked my params in the last 10 days, but I will on WC Sunday!


I will take a coulpe of pictures and post them a little later today. Hopefully that will help.

I think its cool. you should keep it that way. I always see them growing up like mine. Move it to another area and it will change direction.

i agree with the flow, try and direct the flow away from the monti and see what happens.
