Orange Montipora setosa - Check this out

As much as I love the setosa, the orenji danae is definitely on a different level. If I ever come back to the hobby, that will be the 1st frag I get back.:)

More of a Mifune/Kurosawa fan. The Champloo stuff was fun, but the ending left much to be desired. I couldn't get into the Afro series. A little too hip-hoppy for me. His alter-ego got on my nerves, too.

Dude! Considering your collection, that says a lot.

I love Kurosawa. I saw Ran and seven samurai. People don't know what they are missing if they don't see those. Now I'm going to Netflix to add some more. What's your favorite Karl? I'll be sure to watch it next.

Matt, I'd check out Yojimbo, without which there would have been no Fistful of Dollars or Clint Eastwood as a major movie star.

Rashomon is important as a movie which deals with the many perceptions of "truth".

The Hidden Fortress since the plot and characters are funny, and because of its influence on Star Wars.

Although not directed by Kurosawa, Mifune's depiction of Miyamoto Musashi in the Samurai Trilogy is so compelling that I watched all three one after another.

The Challenge is only worth watching since Mifune's head gets split down the middle in the film, but the halves rebound back due to their rubber nature. I hope he got paid a lot for his role in that movie.

Cool, Matt! Did you start watching them after we had talked about it last year?

Reefkeeper pretty covered the gyst of it. Sanjuro's also a good one. I'm also trying to find time to finish Throne of Blood, but have only gotten through the first 30min.

There are some nice modern 'throwback' movies that you can find at Hollywood or Blockbuster. Try The Hidden Blade and Twilight Samurai.

Actually we had a "lab" for Japanese that entailed watching things in Japanese. I sat back and watched Seven Samurai. I went out and rented Ran. This was a couple of years ago. The only thing I remember from the class was how to count to ten and Akira Kurosawa. It was worth it.

I just added a bunch. It's crazy how many movies you find when you start digging around on Netflix. Thanks for the suggestions Charles.

still trying to catch up on Bleach :) (about 15 episodes behind broadcast right now.. around episode 105 I think), plus that new one Death Note looks interesting.. Lots of shinigami-centric storylines lately.

Champloo was ok, the style reminded me a little of Cowboy Bebop (just a little).

As for "western style" anime, the classics just hold up for me.. like Trigun

As for the ending of Champloo, about half of all anime series end with everyone dying *sigh*. That is why a little light heartedness is needed, like a season or two of Slayers ! :) (or at least one of the "movies")
