Orange Spot Filefish - >Tank-Bred, Tank Raised, Captive Raised? Rumors...

OK, so here's an interesting one, and I hope I'm not letting a cat out of the bag or stepping on some toes OR breaking any confidence. RUMOR HAS IT that someone in Illinois (and I'll leave it at that) is breeding and successfully rearing Orange Spotted Filefish. This is like 3rd hand information, so it's suspect from the get-go ("breeder" to private individual to private individual to me).

ANYWAY, can anyone lend any credence to this rumor? If the breeder of these fish happens across this, what's the 411?

Matt

BTW, I did come across the following basic information on Filefish Reproduction...

1. Haremic
2. Demersal Eggs
3. Female cares for fry (which, right off the bat, suggests NON-PELAGIC LARVAE = LARGER Larvae = sounds feasible).

Matt

LOL, one 3 steps back now :) Came across this more detailed reference on the species:

The corallivorous filefish Oxymonacanthus longirostris is a predominantly monogamous species without parental care

LOL, in nature I believe they need SPS....these "captive bred" ones will supposedly take pellets etc.

Again, it's just a rumor...would love to hear there's actually some fact behind it.

ya mine are eating New life spectrum pellets .5mm size unless you crush the slightly bigger size pellets or grind them smaller they have small mouths

holy reawaking Batman......
a 4 yr old thread revived from the past.

This is old news, but still great news. Matt P and a number of others have successfully captive bred this fish, and articles about weaning them over to prepared foods have been published.
Lots of threads on this web board among others have described this feat.

Maybe its time for this thread to go back to sleep. Zzzzzz
