Orbit MH/PC/LL fixture installed - sweet

Okay, I have installed my Orbit with the mounting legs but realized I cannot get into my tank to "play" w/o someone helping me lift off the light and I don't think my 2-yr old son could help me (but he would try!) I have several questions, 1) can you plug the LL into a timer (since there is no on/off switch for them 2) I am going to have to suspend the fixture from the ceiling eventually, how far above the tank should they hang (I have no corals, only live rock - yes some may think this overkill, but I LOVE the MH look) 3)my entire LR is lite up - I don't even need my lamps on! Am I loosing valueable lighting this way (I am use to the standard flour lighting that lays on top of the tank so the light wasn't shining out the sides) 4) I already want to go with some beginner' softies eventually, what would be a good starter coral.
Thanks everyone!

1. Yes, you can plug any fixture into a timer. Just make sure you get a heavy duty timer.

2. Most people go for 4-8 inches. If you're not doing light loving corals, you can go higher, but it's really personal preference and heat control. :)

3. Some people enclose their lights inside a hood to avoid illuminating their house. Again, it's personal preference and heat control.

4. Mushrooms, Ricordeas, and Zooanthids are colorful starter softies. Most of the leathers are good starters as well.

Sounds like you're well on your way to reefer's addiction. Enjoy the trip! :D
