Say I am going to upgrade to a 180 Gal Tank. But Do i need to check my ORP if so whats the benefits of using orp . I have a 90 gal now and don't use it THX.

Oxidation/ Reduction Potential. In lamens it is measure of how well your water can maintain pH/ alkalinity. I would be glad to ellaborate if you would like. It is important, I would recommend checking it

It is a measurement of your waters abillity to breakdown contaminents, or how well your water will sanitize itself by breakingdown wastes. The best way to increase ORP is usually ozone, though ozone can be deadly if not treated with respect. It can convert certain molecules/chemicals to different species by adding or removing electrons to different molecules (oxidizing, reducing)

People are often afraid of ozone, although you would most likely have to suck on the end of the output hose to cause yourself any harm. Smokeeaters, electric air filters are other common every day items that we are exposed to on regular basis that use WAY more ozone than the units we use in the aquarium trade. The benefits of ozone in your aquarium far outway any potential health risk. Most if not all of your public aquariums use ozone and I would guess in large amounts as well as a good chunk of your LFS. Yes, ozone itself can be deadly and I am not looking to debate that issue and some degree of caution is probably a safe bet, but it should not be feared. Not to mention you get great water clarity:) I have found that you can tell if there is a potential issue brewing by watching your ORP as well. I have had a fish die and seen a big drop in ORP, do a water change, be dilegent on skimmer cleaning and watch it go back up. I have heard of ORP being associated with the health of your tank, good readings and things are going well, low readings and there is trouble. I know thats a bit of an oversimplication. What do most of you monitoring ORP get for readings? mine sticks around 395-405. It dropped to 325 when I had a fish death.
