OT - A little Yosemite B&W

I was going through some old images and came across this one. I liked the shot but the color was a bit on the dreary side. It had never occurred to me to try it in B&W.

This was taken 2 years ago from Sentinel Dome in Yosemite. I was meeting a friend at the top and the weather was becoming increasingly bad. On the way up, there was rain. The rain turned to snow and then to hail. Thankfully lightning wasn't included in that mix. We sat up there for about an hour, huddled up against a rock, waiting for some glimpse of Half Dome (or anything else at that point).

This clearing, about 15 minutes before sunset, lasted only a few minutes and the clouds were moving very fast. Shortly after this shot, the sky closed back up, the clouds moved in, visibility dropped to about 10 feet and it started to get dark. We were actually pretty luck that no one was injured getting back down. Because of that experience there is now a flashlight and compass permanently in my camera bag. :)

Cheers,
Doug

nice capture Doug.
Thanks for sharing- that piece of advice is great about the compass and f-light.

Hi Doug,

It's a nice shot but it just seems a little flat (maybe from the web resize). Could you try adding a pass of USM and/or maybe a slight bump in contrast to see if it gives it a little more pop?

I'm not trying to be critical, I just think there is still some untapped potential in this image.

That's not the final pass. The print, that I made from it, has additional sharpening applied. It's actually got a ton of sharpening dialed in but it's carefully applied with via edge masks.

Cheers
