OT: Anyone use the Roomba?

is that the floor cleaning robot thing?.. i saw a special on Ch 4 about it.. its does an ok job but doesn not get out stains like ketchup that has dried.. it also does not have a "dirt" sensor... it will head for a spot and then stop and turn as it follows a random pattern... they did not like it...

my place is 100% hardwood so i picked up the roomba scheduler. and I LOVE IT!!

my cat has a bad habit of tracking litter around (even though i have the litter catching pads) and the roomba is set to go off every day before i get home from work.

did i already say i love it?

bebo, you are thinking of the scooba.

My mom has one and she uses it to chase the dogs.

She loves it and it actually does it's job. It's kind of strange though when it get's tired, it searches for it's home. It also makes a digital map of your floor plan so it won't run into things. It is pretty entertaining.=)

awesome...thanks for the feedback guys.

I have all tile/hardwood floors in my house AND i have 3 cats and one dog. Needless to say...the cats have the same bad habit of tracking litter and my dogs sheds like crazy during the summer. I would love to have the roomba sweeping my floor 24/7.

Anyone have one they don't want? I have corals to trade :)

Julie

I'll lend you a B-OOMBA, but I imagine its not quite the same thing and your cats would not appreciate his finer qualities!

I got one for my wife over a year ago (we have 1-3 dogs in the house on any given day). It does not completely replace vacuuming (e.g. it doesn't get into corners), but seriously cuts down on the frequency with which you need to actually vacuum. Very good for the things you want it for, methinks.

My black lab remains seriously suspicious of it...

I have two -- the original and the Discovery. The Discovery is a HUGE improvement. It's not a particularly good robot, but it's a rather good vacuum cleaner now. On hardwood floors it will be great. It has trouble with really thick carpets, though.

Note that you do have to clean it out basically every time you use it, unless you have very clean floors.

Ha! I daresay Angus would clog the thing up in 5 minutes. It's not just the amount of hair, it's the super-fine kinked, woolly undercoat hair and the new shedding cycle every two weeks. I broke down and finally bought a really good vacuum cleaner, with a cleanable HEPA filter you are supposed to need to replace every year or two.

The filter's toast in 3 months. $20 to replace... but still beats spending a couple of hours every month taking apart a vacuum cleaner to manually de-hair all the belts and rollers. And buying a new vacuum every year.

I wonder if their "lifetime guarantee" under "normal useage" includes dog hair abuse? ;)

I have HW floors, tiles and carpet and Roomba does a great job every day cleaning them. I still need to do monthly cleaning but at least Roomba helps.

I bought it for my home but returned it bc I had carpeting ... the places that had hardwood or tile worked GREAT though ... too bad I don't have much of that in my house ..
