OT: Comp. Build, will it work???

I'm rebuilding my desktop comp. It will be used for editing home video. I will be running Pinnicle Studio 10+ Media edition.
I built the Desktop 4-5 years ago Using a AMD 3200, w/ an ATI All in Wonder video card. Running Win XP SP2.

Q: I'll be upgrading the video card with this build, do I need to stay with a 32bit card or can I run the 64bit. I think my sys. will still be running @ 32bit.

Also if anyone smarter than me see's something that does not make since, or compatibility issues please LMK.

The build is still under $600.00 and I'm trying to keep it there.

P.S. I already know that Windows will only recognize 3.5g of my memory.

It's been over a year since I built a pc but to my knowlegde a video card does not make the distinction (hardware anyhow), you may need specific drivers however, matched for the video card you buy and the OS you run. This is where you may run into problems.

Soni: I'm trying to keep cost's down. Screwed up & off the cuff told the wife I could upgrade the computer for $500.00.
Will the XP Home w/ SP2, I have run in 64bit???
If so then yea I want to run 64bit. That'll solve quite a few problem's

I also have several copies of XP laying around. I actually belong(need to renew it) to the MicroSoft Action Package. So at one point they sent me 10 copies of XP and 10 copies XP 64 bit, I am sure I still have a copy or two left.

Is there a reason you are not considering Vista (unless Pinnacle will not run on it?) I pains me to suggest this since I hate (despise, loathe) Vista in general. But the real major improvement is the graphics subsystem, which offloads rendering to the graphics card. For what you are doing that could be a major plus. There are a bunch of really good PCI-E cards w/256MB out there for really not a lot of money right now.

FYI, I am an IT professional of 20 years who has loved every new version of MS software. I've been using Vista over a year now, and it's an infuriatingly lousy piece of bloat. Nonetheless, if you renew your Action Pac you'll have Vista.

Yeah I actually might have a copy of Vista they sent me. But with XP they sent me 1 disc with 10 serial codes and 1 XP 64 bit with 10 serial codes. The Vista they sent me has 1 disk and 1 code, but I want to say its good for 10 copies as well, I could be totally wrong but I want to say I read that somewhere. I actually really liked the Action Subscription I mainly got it for Small Business Accounting and then realized it was way over my head.

I am all about getting the best video card you can. But if you trying to save money this seems to be a good option, with lots of Mem. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130286

I buy lots of things from newegg, love them!
