OT: German Shepher and Vizsla

Like I said in the previous post, this has been a very difficult month. To add to the excitement my Vizsla has had a litter of puppies. About two months ago (two days before his appointment to get fixed) apparently my GSD hooked up with my Vizsla. And now here we are.

I am very picky about my dogs and I don't want to just give the puppies to anyone. So I thought that if anyone has enough patience for a reef tank, they can handle a dog.

Here is a little background. My Vizsla is a pure bread dog, very smart and very well trained with tons of energy. The German Shepherd is also a pure bread and shows very good drive and lots of energy as well. Here are some links to the AKC about the breeds.

AKC Breed Dog
and
AKC German Shepherd

It needs to be understood that these dogs will have a lot of energy and are not the dogs for an apartment or townhouse. These dogs are of a mixed breed and it's hard to tell how big they will get. The Vizsla weighs about 60-65lbs and she is full grown. The GSD weighs about 80lbs and is a year old. GSD's get anywhere from 90 to 134lbs. Now, I would prefer that these dogs go to homes that have some type of yard space (the more the better) and with someone that has some experence with bigger dogs.

Now don't let the size fool you, it's all in the training and especially GSD bloodlines will require some serious attention. If you do not constantly provide something for the dog to do, they are smart, and will find something to do. Also a GSD has a long puppyhood, around 2-3 years. That dosen't mean that they can't be house broken and trained, they will just have that puppy energy for a while, but they will continue to grow, so you will, for a time, have about 100lbs of curious high energy around the house.

GSD's also shed constantly, there is nothing you can do about it. It's not so bad if you brush them about once a week and vaccum the house, but they will shed.

The Viszla is also a hurding dog. It wants activities to do but she also understands the value of just laying next to the couch on Fridays and watching a movie.

All in all, these are both excellent breeds and I feel that with the proper training and attention, just like any dog, they will be great dogs. I have a 3 year old son and the dogs are very tolerant to the actions of a young child (pulling ears, poking eyes, etc) and have never had any problem with either of them around children. The GSD likes to sneak into my sons room while he is sleeping and lay in the bed with him.

I don't want these dogs given to just anyone, I want them to have happy, healthy lives. If anyone here is looking for a loyal companion, or knows someone that is, please let me know. The puppies were born on the 8th of October so they should be ready around the 10th of December (in time for Christmas!)

Thanks Again,
Shawn

Congratulations! My pure bred border collie ran up the road and found a cute labrador and we got a great new breed called "Border Labs." We kept one and she got the best of both breeds. Very loyal and loving, high energy, smart and great at fetch. Her poor mom is herded around like a sheep and I swear that I could race any greyhound with my little "Mia."

Good luck and I hope you enjoy them.

oo i wish i could have one but with the new edition of the pit we cough acquired mistakenly i cant

diane i hear ya about your breed there i have a sheltie lab and maybe beagle and man super smart super fast i have a indy 500 track in my backyard with burms he has made

They are very cute puppies, one actually opened it's eyes today for the first time. I just can't stress enough about how much work these breeds are, but if trained well, these are some of the smartest and loyal breeds around. Some kids were actually walking through my back yard the other night and didn't realize that I was standing there( it was dark ) with Ace, my GSD. They won't take that shortcut again. But after he made himself known the kids stopped dead in their tracks, after telling Ace to "hold" he sat in at the spot that I left him as I approached the kids and explained that perhaps sticking to the road was their best option.

Well ask around, I just want them in a good home.

would love to help you out but i have 2 wolf-hybrids that tend to get territorial. they might be ok with pups but wouldnt want to risk it. good luck.

With the brains and loyalty of the breed, have you considered donating them to an organization that trains Dogs for the blind. Perhaps they could take the puppies in, train them and in turn, donate them to a needy blind person for a seeing eye dog.

I'm just trying to think outside of the box and help out. My wife is allergic to pet dander so the only animal pets we have are corals.
