Ot - i'm back

That is a worst case scenario. Sorry to hear. I have a few small pieces which I can donate. I'll let you know next time I am out your way

hey gang...thanks so much. At this point, I have completed a 50% water change on the 90g. Will do another this weekend. ALL FISH ARE OKAY (which absolutely blows my mind). Only coral survivors in the 90g that I didn't remove are a few mushrooms, the anthillia and GSP. Oh, and the Red Planet and Blue tort. That still puzzles me. Worst losses, my todd's torch colony and my huge bright red cynarina. The muck that was in the tank was HORRIBLE. melting s**t everywhere. This weekend I'll be siphoning 50% of the sand out and starting over. Probably a restack as well since I can't bear to look at the empty rock that was once overflowing with life.

Yes Mel, only the 90g.

Thank you for the restart coral offers...I will definitely take anything anyone wants to give.

As for the tension here at home? YOU HAVE NO IDEA.

And to think I complain when my fiance calls me about every little detail in the tank when I'm gone. Guess I take it for granted

thats quite a list Kat..Time to lay the guilt trip on thick and get some new corals..and maybe some equipment that cuts the hubby out(or down) of the maintenance wile you are out of town)

+1! What an unfortuinate happening, but this gives you every right to get your tank towards fully automated. I'm sure by now your husband know that this reef obsesion is not going away for you. Maybe (maybe!) he would be awesome enough to buy you some gift certs to your fav online dealers? Just drop the hint and see what happens. Better luck in the future Kat! If you need some SPS at some point, I have about 10 corals right now, and getting many more when I set my tank back up. I'd be more than happy to hook you up.

update......two water changes later....duncans that i thought were toast are coming back. brain coral is dead....Shawna...yours is alive and well in the 120g....thank God. all LPS except for the elegance is gone. walking dendro back in action. clam is still a little unhappy, but pulling through.

Conversations (i.e. heated discussions) at home have proved a number of disturbing truths....and also a 300 dollar "i am so sorry" restock wad 'o cash.

I've given up on trusting him with the tank (since this is the second time he's screwed it up - my original tank, the 55g, i left in his care and he killed everything last May)

From now on...I hire a professional while I'm gone.

What I've learned is that no matter how hard you try to teach someone the difference between a goldfish and a reef tank...if the ability to grasp the vast difference isn't there to begin with...or there is no interest or fascination with the LIFE that is associated with having a live reef.....there is little chance of igniting that passion and/or teaching the art to someone else.

Everyone deserves a second chance...I'll even give some a third go-round...but with the loss at 2 grand? There are no more chances here.

I am now on the hunt for someone experienced that can take care of my tank should the need for me to be out of town arise again, no doubt it will, as I will need to go back to NYC to see a few more shows as potentials for bringing to the Rochester area. If you are interested, shoot me a PM.

If not for the life in the tank, you would think the financial interest you share in the tank alone would be enough to "Make" him care :( But he sounds as if he's sorry? and mistakes happen Unfortunately it was an expensive one.
I hope you can work this out and move forward. Glad my brain is doing great! TY
Also I wish I were experienced enough to care for your tank. I have a very simple set up but if worse comes to worse and you can't find anyone(which Im sure you will) "Stickys" come in handy for this type of situation lol (hugs) keep your head up! Nice to see you back!

thanks, Shawna. The fish are fine. A little hungry, but fine. (didn't feed them either for 4 days.....but they are all pretty fat.)

There's a back story to the 90g which is why it has been the target of all sorts of mischief in my absence. I think he probably thought I would give up, but after the initial shock of all this...i'm restacking and saying, "Woot! New canvas!" Which is not only payback, but driving him a little bonkers.

I'm tenacious as heck.

I hope it all works out :)

I hope for the best Kat. It sux to loose stuff in your tank, but mistakes are going to happen at some time or another. If I did'nt have a 2+ hour drive, I'd be happy to help. If you need some frags down the road keep me posted. I'll be getting lots of SPS within a few months and when fragable, I'd be happy to provide.

Wow Kat. I am really sorry about this.
I'm really sorry about the corals, but I'm happy the fish survived.

Sorry I have been out of the loop for a while...
new job -- moving to Syracuse soon.
Mother in law is in hospice now. Very depressed.
I just keep telling myself things will get better.

thanks again, everyone. truly.

Greg...things will get better...they always do. Some of the best words I have ever heard came from my friend and director of 12 years..."It's all how you handle it, baby."
