I was wondering if anyone knew of any discount lift ticket coupons at any stores around Sac. I can't find any good deals online right now, but it may be because I don't know where to look. I want to go tomorrow so if anyone knows any info, please LMK! Thanks!

I know that Costco usually offer some good deals on Lift tickets? I'm not sure about which resorts though...

Costco used to have 4 packs to Kirkwood and at least one other resort. I think they have 2 packs now.

Try your local ski and board shops a lot of them sell discounted tickets.

Yeah, I'm totally jonesing to go boarding! I saw the weather report last night and all I can think about today is all that fresh stuff up there.

Rudy, when are you thinking of going? I'm tempted to do a weekend in South Shore next weekend and go to Kirkwood or Sierra at Tahoe.

But I haven't seen any discounted tickets. Let me know if you find any for Kirkwood or Sierra.

I'm for sure going tomorrow, but I don't know when again after that. I've been looking forward to going this weekend because of all of the snow. I'm sure next weekend will be even better though Mark!

Lots of dry powder right now for sure. I'm probably headed up to Kirkwood tomorrow. Winds are up though...

Yeah, buying it there.

This is the first season in about 7 years that I haven't had a season pass. If you can go at least 5 or 6 times (or need an excuse to) that's the way to do it. Before now I'd get about 30 days in each season so it pays for itself an then some... of course food and beer on the mountain are ridiculous $$ so they still win in the end.

I'm meeting one other reefer up there, if anyone is gonna be at the wood tomorrow PM me and I'll give you my number. We can throw down some powder turns.

If you plan on skiing more than a couple of days this winter, here are a few deals.

Please be careful driving in the snow.

I had a truck driver "close" a clients driveway for over two hours yesterday due to the fact that he "didn't think he need chains" to get back up it. Made me late for my next appointment. And....residents hate dumb tourists. (We love smart ones that spend money!)

Living up there I bet you see a lot of knuckle head drivers. Driving up as much as we have I think I've seen just about everything from upside down SUV's to guys crashing into eachother in the parking lot.

A long time ago I got into trouble on 88 at the down grade by Silver Lake. Hit some black ice and burried the front end in the snow bank. Next guy came sliding down and missed my car by inches. A thrid car slid into the 2nd. Finally a guy in an old yota came along and yelled at me "what the hell are you doing?!? this is a bad place to stop!" he pulled me out and we were on our way. We became Subaru owners after that :)

... which reminds me I need to throw the snow tires on the wrx tonight.....

Everyday almost Jacob.

Today driving home from Reno I went through a chain checkpoint and before I arrived at the Caltrans inspection area a $30 dollar installer was angrily yelling at me to pull over and put on chains. (I own a 2007 AWD Chevy Express Cargo Van.) After I gave him a wave he walk to my passenger side and called me every name in the book for trying to get through the inspection which I calmly listened to. When he was done I told him he would be better off going back to his hawking job at the strip club down in Reno. And then drove right through the checkpoint. Point being most people turn into knuckleheads in the snow.

I have lived in Tahoe for twenty three years and have never been in an accident. The most important thing is to SLOW DOWN. Always give yourself more than enough time to get to your destination.

And one more thing..... come up here mid-week. The neighborhood is already getting crowded, can't imagine what the slopes will be like.

You're right about that! Most of the accidents that I see are single cars, usually 4WD or AWD. They think they can go as fast as they want and always lose.

Since we're already off topic, how is the real estate market around Tahoe right now? My wife and I were kicking around the idea of purchasing a small cabin and using one of the local property management services to take care of it for us when we're not using it. I'm curious how the market is since it's been so slow in the valley, and also if the fire last summer impacted things.

Definitely a buyers market, like everywhere right now.

I was talking to a client of mine today that just found out that her insurance company knocked the value of her home $90K due to the market value.

I also have a client that had bought a new home in Portola, CA and was trying to sell his home in Truckee for over a year and took a near $200K below asking price to unload it. There are definitely deals to be had.

Here is a link to my neighborhoods realty company.

I know the owner quite well. mainly because of my summer time complaints when the neighborhood turns into a high class trailer park with all the rentals full. Not a bad thing all the time, our family have become good friends with some returning renters, but the most of them have no clue that there are working class people that live in the neighborhood and every night of the week isn't an all nighter.

If you find a good property manager, I could see a rental being used 30-40 weekends a year. I see it right across the street from my home with a lot of work by the homeowner and the agent.

As far as the Angora Fire.... I don't think that it has affected the property value in the area a bit. Possibly insurance rates for new owners. But living here in the summer time there is a daily concern. Like the drivers on the winter roads, it only takes one knucklehead out in the wilderness with a campfire to destroy hundreds of homes and lives.

I was driving home from the Giants vs Yankees series the weekend that the Angora broke out and when I first saw the sky in Auburn I knew something devastating was happening somewhere near Tahoe and it was a nervous drive home. I maintain four aquariums for the Barton Memorial Hospital Foundation in SLT and out of the first 53 homes that burned 15 of them were hospital employees.

Yesterday was a zoo at Kirkwood. Longest lines I've seen in years. I dont think the back ever got open due to avy danger. We got up there late and hit the bar until half day rates started, then hiked a few ridgelines to get away from the crowd. I'm feeling it today.

Thanks for the link. I need to start looking at some listings.

Sorry to hear about your friends losses in the fire.

I was at Sugarbowl yesterday and it wasnt too crowded. One of the lifts was but that was all. They were selling $43 tix at Sierra Ski and Snow so I went there to buy them!
