Just go to the Humane Society. They are overcrowded right now. Most animals are $10 and some are even free. I've always gotten all my animals from the Humane Society (or found them as strays).

Hahaha. No, but I have gotten exotic birds (which would normally have been hundreds or thousands of dollars to buy from a store), guinea pigs, cats, dogs, rabbits and hamsters there. Plus, approximately 30% of their dogs are purebreds if that's what you're looking for. They always have a lot of boxers.

+1 on secondhand pound puppies. I got a great Brittany Spaniel 13 years ago. She's been a wonderful dog. We got her by registering on a wish list so you can let them know what kind, gender, and age you are looking for and they will call you if such a pet comes in.

My mom got a purebred mini schnauzer, a purebred great pyrinees and a purebred Tibetan mastiff from the pound. The mastiff and pyrinees are both over 120 lbs each! All of them came from puppy mills that were shut down by the police. My best friend has two English bulldogs that came with papers, from the Humane Society. Adopting is the way to go. Why pay tons of money for a dog when you can save the life of an animal that is already here instead? Over 10 million adoptable dogs and cats are euthanized in shelters in the US every year. That's adoptable -- ones that don't have physical or emotional problems. Simply due to irresponsible breeding and people giving them up. Both of my dogs are mutts (one is a basset hound/border collie mix, the other is a wire-haired terrier/Australian shepherd mix) and they are both protective, loyal, smart and loving. I wouldn't trade them for anything.

I thought about looking at the pound but I have small kids and wanted a puppy to raise with them. I just dont trust older dogs that were not raised around my kids, wife works in the peds department at UMC and she sees a lot of dog attacks. Stay away from Rotts, Pits, Collies, and German Sherpards if you got kids. They seem to be the ones I hear about the most. By far pit bulls are number 1 on the real bad attacks. "But she was a loving dog lol......."
Man to find two english Bulldogs at the pound is crazy 2000 each is likely what was paid for them, someone has to have some serious issues to give those up lol..... I found a flashy AKC boxer, could not bring myself to get the English bulldog at 2500, not that cool of a breed so I will just stick with Boxers.

I wouldn't expect to see Collies on that list. I grew up with Collies and Brittany Spaniels and never seen a lot of aggresion from either. There always that one that you dont trust as much as the others. We now have a Shelty (mini collie), horrible with other dogs but great with kids.

There are tons of puppies at the pound. They get litters in year round. Now is a very busy time for puppies because most litters are born in the spring. Also go to Petsmarts on the weekends. They host adoption fairs for the Humane Society every weekend. The Humane Society also has a storefront in the Park Mall where they have adoptable animals. They always have puppies at all their locations. I guarantee you'd be able to find a dog that your kids will love at the Humane Society -- they have all different kinds there. I'm not sure why you think the pound only has adult dogs. People are constantly dumping unwanted litters of puppies there (I used to volunteer there). When I volunteered there, they'd get in 200 animals a day. Most of them were unwanted litters of kittens and puppies, or pets that people were giving up for some reason or another. Very few of them are strays. There are hundreds of good dogs available for adoption in Tucson, and lots of puppies.

wow never saw the boxer rescue with puppies. Usually get dogs from people that cant take the hyper breed or they have issues like chewing etc. Could not see someone giving up a boxer litter, heck its 400 a pup minimum with no papers was a good find!!! Collies bite out of jealosy, friend of the family in Louisiana had to get rid of theirs after it bit their newborn in the crib, then I heard thats not uncommon oddly. Only dog that bit me was a German Shep, wagging its tail to get me to pet it then bit. Haven't liked the breed since. I found an AKC Boxer for 475 locally which is a crazy cheap price. Usually 1100 for a dog with this kind of pedigree. I will keep looking at the pound for an english bulldog puppy but not gonna hold my breath....

I was attacked by 3 dobermans that had escaped from their yard when I was 8 years old. My fat little terrier mutt fought them off and nearly died. If he hadn't been there, I could very easily have been toast.
