This was taken just before sending him down the drain. :)

Don't you know spiders eat all the other bugs in your house? Spiders are good bugs! Plus they make for great macros :p
My motto- never squish a bug you can take a picture of

I know Greg, others in my household don't share the same sentiment however.

BTW - I used a tip from this month's Photoshop User for setting the gray point. The original picture has a yellow cast:

sink_spyder_orig.jpg

It's works great in a shot that has no easily discernible "middle gray"

Open the image.

Create a new layer

use Edit/Fill and fill with 50% gray

Change the layer type to difference

Create a new adjustment layer choosing threshold.

Drag the slider to the far left until the entire image turns white.

Slowly bring the slider back to the right until some areas turn black.

Hold down shift and mark one of those first black spots with the dropper.

Hit cancel on the threshold dialog and delete the layer that you've added.

Now you can set the gray point using curves or levels on the marker that you created.

It's slick.

I've been working in photoshop for years ... good tip dude ... had to copy and paste it into a notepad file for future use, will try it out tomorrow ... Thanks!

man you guys are lightyears ahead of me :p
I'm a down and dirty photoshopper- if I can't get the pic to look decent in two or three minutes I give up on it. If the picture has to be printed I'll spend longer but my preference is to have someone else deal with it :p

Well you do pretty darn good for 2 or 3 mins... :)

lol- but thanks. Seems like lately most of those minutes are spent removing dust specs from the sensor :(
