I was wondering if anyone could help me out and let me know what would be the better bang for the buck. I'm looking to purchase a laptop and can't decide which one is better, what do you guys think?

Both are $599, what I need help with is the processor. Which is the better processor? Notebook is for home use....surf the web, games, DVD and Music.

well you dont have a OS that will support the full 64 bit processing.. on the first one..

and the 2nd one doesnt have much info about the processor, but has a better (faster) harddrive with SATA transfer speeds. but doesnt say how much memory it has..

either one you should go with a GIG of memory(1000 mb)

Processor for the 2nd one is......Intel Centrino Duo Mobile technology Notebook with Intel Core Duo processor T2050

w/ 512 mb ddr2 memory

My vote is for the HP, just make sure to get a 64bit version of Windows XP and you will be good to go.

I've had better expierence with AMDs over Intel C. AMDs seem to, atleast IMO, run a little bit faster and smoother with graphic processing than Intels, even faster than their descriped speed (1.8Ghz in this case).

For games and heavier graphics go AMD. For business type work, spreadsheets, word documents, go Intel.

Go AMD

Get a Mac.

:D

I made the swich on my home PC a few months ago and the difference is amazing. And I have built no less than a dozen mid to high-end PC's for myself, family and friends. If my work did not force me to use a Windows laptop, I'd pay for my own Powerbook. It's that good.

If MAC ran all the software it would be a no brainer. Hell I wish the Amiga kept its ground. It is the old VHS vs. Beta thing again.

Tom's hardware is a cool site. I use it all the time.

I've been hard pressed to find a single piece of software that I either can't run on here or cannot find a comparable (and free!) substitution for.

Games would be the exception to that rule. But I stopped hard core gaming a few years ago...Now I just want a stable, fast, versitile machine.

Tom's is an awesome site...I chose many a motherboard based on Tom's reviews.

Do not walk, run away from Toshiba. I do all the technology purchasing at work and we have had 3 Toshiba notebooks. They absolutely suck for tech support and we needed it often with Toshiba. Right now we own 23 HP Compaq business notebooks and they are very reliable. If I were to purchase a new notebook purely for home use I'd give Gateway a serious look strictly based on their godly tech support. And I agree with budsnbuds on the procs, AMD > Intel for gaming, but core duo is a better business proc. [rant] On another note, it always amuses me when someone jumps in a thread to tout the greatness of Macs. I come from a desktop publishing background and I have spent pleanty of time on both sides of the fence. There are so many more reasons for going IBM compatable vs. Mac that I really can't fathom spending the kind of cash you have to lay out for a Mac. Not to mention the fact that there are so many fewer applications available on the Mac platform, if you are a gamer there really isn't even any reason to consider it. For so many years Mac guys raved about how much faster a Mac is than a PC. I read an article in PCWorld about how now that their are Intel based Macs they were able to benchmark OSX vs. XP on identical machines and which one would you guess won? XP bested OSX on most of the benchmarks, only falling short on graphical processing based apps. In short, PCs are faster, XP is faster and Mac is even admitting that their hardware is falling behind. Unless you are simply happy with email, iTunes and video editing (and nothing else) I don't think I'd ever give up my PC. [/rant]

I'm glad I could amuse you with my personal opinions and experience.

Have fun all.

But MAC is the most STABLE.. from what i hear..
But im still a bill gates boy.. he keeps me employed..lol

By the way I purchased the HP.....since it seemed like more of a entertainment laptop than the toshiba.

Thanks for the help (i'm using it now).

I think the Toshiba has better specs but HP has better cust service and is probably built better.

If it were for me I'd go with an IBM/Lenove. Rock solid and fantastic cust service. If they were'nt so expensive.

I just picked up a BEAST of a PC off of ebay. Granted, no gaurentees but is working like a charm and I bought it for a song. There are some refurbishers on there that have sold thousands, offer gaureentees and have great feedback. You may want to check it out.
