OT - Vanderbilt Study

Hi guys,

I know this isn't fish related, but it is in the name of science, so I hope you'll forgive me this trespass.

I really need to find some participants for a study I am running and with the school year drawing to a close, it is getting harder to recruit from around Vanderbilt. If any of you would be interested in participating (details below) I would certainly appreciate it. Feel free to let others know.

Also, if you know of any responsible psych or education students who are going to be in Nashville for the summer and are interested in children and the effects of media on people, my advisor would likely take on volunteers to work in the lab. I know we can't pay, but for a few hours of volunteer time per week it could be a good opportunity for a letter of recommendation and some experience. Trust me when I say that these things are indispensable when you graduate.

There is a chance I will be increasing the compensation outlined below if I get a small grant I recently applied for. If so, I'll post a follow-up to this (should find out in the next two weeks).

I can work entirely around your schedule if you need nights/weekends... it just needs to be light out when we do the testing.

Thanks for looking,
Brian

Navigation in Virtual Environments

Principal Investigator: Brian Verdine, M.S.
Other Investigators: Georgene Troseth, Ph.D.

Do video games affect people’s visual processing and navigation? We are conducting research to find out whether playing video games helps people use maps to navigate in the real world. Adults 18 years of age or older are invited to participate, including those who have not played video games before.

Participation will involve two 2-hour sessions in our lab on the Peabody campus of Vanderbilt and/or at Centennial Park. The lab visits will be separated by approximately 2 weeks, during which we may ask you to play a video game for up to 10 hours total. We will send you a screening questionnaire before the study to be sure you qualify.

Participants needed: Adults over the age of 18 years.
Compensation: Credit hours and/or entry in a drawing for a $400 gift certificate
Visits: 2

To participate or for more information, contact me, the principal investigator, by e-mail (brian.verdine@vanderbilt.edu) or phone (615-322-8387)
