OT:why saint louis sucks!

I grew up in a neighborhood that was less than savory, and I have found one thing to be true about St. Louis. That no matter how the neighborhood looks or where it is located, if you don't bother someone they won't bother you. You can go anywhere in St. Louis and feel safe. Now that does not mean I would go to places that I know have certain crime issues at Midnight, Common Sense still must prevail. I have had friends that lived in the projects that Marbles mentions Most of my Family live in either Chesterfield or North County, I went to Lindbergh High Shool in South County and Worked 4 years in West County area. I have never felt unsafe in any area. I have been to Memphis, Alabama, New Orleans, Tampa, Miami, Orlando, New York, Ohio, Bahamas, Jamacia, Hawaii, San Francisco, LA, San Diego, Los Vegas, Phoneix, Atlanta, etc. I use to think I wanted to move away from St. Louis, but I am fairly happy with the not to small not to big city. It has its issues, but it is made up of primarily good people.

Also, lets not generalize. Remember most crime is commited by a minority of the population. Living in North or east St. Louis does not make you a crook, it is still a small part of the population in those areas that cause issues. The majority of Crime is committed in Suburban America. Where most of us live.

St. Louis would be a better city if the law that keeps any building from being taller than the arch was erased from the books. Many large corporations have looked over St. Louis because they need large buildings thus loosing thousands of jobs that would otherwise be bringing in alot of revenue. Can you imagine what New York city would be like if the buildings couldn't be taller than the statue of liberty? Not to mention the laughable public transportation here.

Hate to disappoint you but there is no such law - it is a misconception that it is prohibited. It is understood by most that they shouldn't build higher than the Arch but there is nothing prohibiting it. I would also point out that NYC is a slightly different situation since Manhattan is an island with a limited amount of area requiring tall skyscrapers to maximize value. In St. Louis City the cost of land is so much cheaper that it is far more cost effective to build larger buildings without going up.

I can also tell all of you that I have lived in and around NYC as well as St. Louis and I can assure you that there are places in NYC that scare the hell out of me and I have been all over St. Louis with virtually no problem.

Wow, It just so happens that one of our company got broken in to and every tool was stolen because we couldn't park in the building that perticular day in north city. Yes it only took one day to leave a locked van in the main street during the day time.
My dad will not do work in the city now because his insurance was going to drop him from all the claims to his van. Most of all of them where the in city's limits. When I have an emergency job and the tools are stolen, I can't the work done.

Most of the electricain's bring guns to work when they know where there going to north city or any where at night. No joke here. I had one guy who would bring his deer hunting rifle to work and I know I wouldn't want to be a crook or a deer around him. I keep a .40 Cal with me and sleep with a AK-47, Just ask anyone who know's me they will tell you that it's true.

So this is not my opinion this is what I see and hear every day.
I'm not against any other race if that is what you are impling, I could talk about all the really good african american people that I know well and we go to ball games together with or my korean freind in Cali " he is a blast ". There is one of the most respectfull waiters at Lemay Wok, very clean, fast, presentable, and I hold him high in my mind. I do customer service with many kinds people at all typies of places and I treat them with respect as I would treat anyone at any time.

I do hate my white naiboir some times but I went over there and patched things up. I left my old naboir hood because of my white naboirs and I needed a bigger house for my fish and dogs.

I'll keep this short and simple.

I grew up in south ST. LOUIS off Gravois and Minnesota Ave. The 2900 block behind Grant school which once was a thriving school that I had attended. I lived here from 1984-1995. My parents finally move in 1993 do to the violence. I followed in 1995 for the same reasons. Before that we lived 1 block southeast which was on Magnolia @ the 3000 block. That was from 1979 to 1984 and from what I can remember, the city was not a bad place to live.
IMO that all changed somewhere around 1987 give or take a year. And I don't blame anyone who lived in the city for moving out. If you had the chance to better your life right now, Would you not take it??
