OT: Xbox mod

Just in case anyone has an xbox (non 360) lying around, funman1 just did a quick mod on mine. Soldered in a new chip, incorporated an old hard drive, and I now have all of the old Atari, Sega, NES, and SuperNES games and can save xbox games to the new hard drive for immediate access without the disc.
If anyone has one gathering dust, clean it up and bring it over to Steve. Modest cost is well worth the nostagia and loads of games.:smokin:

Cool stuff!

I used to be an xbox/ps2 modman.

Those emulators bring back some old memories!

Now to get the 360 to hold a 500GB+ drive.

hahaha
Yeah I put a 750Gig drive in an OLD xbox!!!

jtarmitage, Enjoy!!!

Nuuze, have you heard about the new mod for the PS2?
It's just a memory card you drop right in the front slot, and you can plug in an external Hard Drive via USB to play your games from, much like the old xbox, but without the fuss of soldering and such..
:)
I need to do some more research on it, but that would be sweet for my old PS2!!
What chip did you use for xbox?
I'm a massive beliver in the Excuter 2.6, cost is a bit higher than most other chips, but never had one fail yet, and I've done ALOT of Xboxes ;)

Wow cool! I always hated modding the PS2. It had over 20+ wires! I need to look into it.

My favorite was the Aladdin chips. Very cheap and pretty stable dual booting controlled by the power button. I used slayer i think it was called.

:)

I use the Wiikey for the Wii (That's what I have in mine right now)

The newer Wii's are totally unmodable, they swaped out the bios chip so it has no more debug ports on it :(

Since you can't play a modded 360 online I have not bothered to even look into the 360 mods. And even if you do mod the 360 you still have to have discs to play games, I HATE that.

That's why I love the orig Xbox mod SO MUCH, no more discs to loose, step on, sit on, etc...

And the Ps3's don't even interest me due to cost so......

Well I wouldn't go as far as totally unmoddable, but you would have to be an idiot to try and wire it to the chipset.

I love my wii with wiikey!

So the PS2 can be modded more easily now?! Hhhmmm, I do have a spare PS2 lying around (first Gen) . . . Stever, we may have to talk sometime!!!

the wii is actually moddable with the d2ckey. i ordered mine off a website in canada and its on it's way. user48953 know a guy who does them for $75 if you need it done.

Yes Wii's are modable but there is a newer version that is not.
It has no debuging ports, on any of the chips inside them.
I modded my own wii and many others with the Wiikey

Jayson.. Long time no see.. is the guy local? and does he do the 30+ wire install or the 13 wire? I'm leaning towards the Aragon over the d2ckey.

thanks
huy

Just be careful and make sure you get one easily updatable. I went with the wiikey for this reason and they were one of the first to release an update for super mario galaxy.

Hey guys... Dug up this thread. I'd like to mod my old Xbox. I'm an electronics geek so I would like to do it myself. Do you have a link or recommendation on what to buy? Thanks! I'm interested in the tried and true stuff/method.

Hey Robert send me a PM.
I can tell you all that you need to know, and if you like, you can get the stuff bring it over and walk you through it for free.
But if you toast your box while under your own hands... :(
And if you come over you can use my mod chip programer, it would suck to buy one just for a single box.

It's EXTREMELY hard to find a supplier to ship mod chips into the US now too.
I have to get them imported and through customs, which can be a pain at times!!!

LMK I can hook ya up..

Steve,

Have you tried the TSOP or Softmod method? I haven't touch my xbox in a long time. Prefer to just hook up my laptop directly to the tv.
