I have a nice LR surface that will be a good place to grow something crusty about the middle 1/3rd of the dept (its a sloped surface). Almost directly under a 250w 14000k hqi. However, it has a couple shrooms off the side, a Squamosa at the base, and potentially a frogspawn somewhat beside it (the rock itself being the barrier). I've been considering a few things...a Chalice (preferably the pink/purple, with alien eyes), an encrusting monti (yeah, I know its sps), or propogate some micromussa or acans on this surface, or any suggestions.

My main concern is the squammi being stung, and the frogspawn placement. I've seen frogspawn amongst sps, but lps like to battle right?

Usually unless there the same specie theres a dual to be had with anything, so, yes. You can mix euphyllias; frogspawns, hammers and such together, not sure bout the clam gettin stung though. My frogspawn stings a mushroom but gets stung too, and my rhodactis mushroom just flat out melts my frogspawn so.

It would take quite a while and depending on the point of collection may never acclimate to being that high as far as echinophyllia go plus they send out some long sweepers at night that may burn your clam and surrounding coral.

There has been some really exotic psammacora coming out, an LE or two as well, or maybe a cyphastrea. Ive seen some faviids up in the nooks amongst the SPS and flowy areas, may wanna look into that.
Theres a few morphs of Leptastrea that keep there colors under a decent amount of light like you describe, youll just want to start them low before you put it up to there final spot.

Sorry for the ramble it's Sat. night ;)

What's LE? Anyhow, as far as smaller polyped type colonies, the frogspawn may attack right? Do they just take out what they can reach, or is it that once they attack, find some of the colony, then reach for more? I can see how it may take out a brain, or something large bc they more or less large individuals.

I'm breaking down a smaller of 2 tanks I have. Thus I have to move my frogspawn to the other tank and it's one guy I don't want to give up. Problem is, I'm a bit crowded already and the other areas have too much flow, or just too much other corals. (I have a brain on either side, mushrooms and ricordias every where, clams, acans, plate)
