Our new GBTA!

Just Reefin'
Just wanted to share our new Japanese GBTA that we picked up last weekend.... It has found a home on the back rock work, facing the back of the tank. I'm hoping someday it might want to hang out in the front so I can take in the beauty all day long :-)

Neither of our clowns has bothered even checking out this beauty yet, but hope in time.

This 'nem is quite the beauty and we're very lucky to have it. The size, when we brought it home, and it opened up the first time was about the size of a grapefruit.. it's huge!!

Waiting list for clones? Id meet you in chicago? :D

heh, sure we can start one and wait for when it splits... It shouldn't be long at this point, it is a big boy..

I'm actually not in Chicago, but about 1hr south of the Wisconsin border... close enough :)

Awesome colour.. one of the only green bubble anemones that I've liked

Agreed, they generally aren't neon green and keep their color.. We'll see how this one keeps its color over time, but so far it's beautiful.

Beautiful! I don't want to be the negative nancy, but to me (and this is just my opinion) it looks somewhat bleached. I have seen quite a few of these coming in lately and I am wondering if they are being exposed to too much light at the wholesale and retail levels, bleaching them out a bit. My understanding is that these ones are being collected in deeper waters, 15-35 meters, so perhaps they need to be acclimated to higher light levels more carefully than some of the shallower water strains.

Again, just my musings, hopefully someone else will jump in. But regardless, gorgeous and congrats on it!

I agree that it is bleached, but it can make a full recovery. It is a very nice specimen, and when it regains all of its zooanthallae it will look awesome.

That's a beautiful GBTA. Hope it thrives for you!

Thanks!

Very nice

Where did you pick him up?

I'm not allowed to say on this particular website. Somewhere locally here in Chicago land area.

Thanks! It explains why he went to the back-side of my rock scape with only part of him hanging out in the bare naked sun!

Thanks! How long do you think that will take? We still love'em either way, but weeks, months, years?

Wow! Really cool.

Thanks!! I wish he'd park himself right out in the front of the tank someday and be the centerpiece, but that's not my decision :)

+1. I wish they looked this awesome in nature, but it appears you have a bleached nem. You may want to force manual division on him and send me 1/2 for evaluation, ;-)

Well a grand update this morning.. My wife woke me up on her way out to work this morning, and our lovely GBTA has moved front and center in the tank 2\3 of the way up... He has put his feet in a nice big crevice on our rock..

I will feed him when the lights start slowly coming on to encourage him to keep himself here.... Maybe he's ready for the light? No one knows better them himself!

yes, you can give him light....and feed it. but dont be surprised if it moves again over the next 7-14 days. the most frustrating thing is them walking around the tank, or worse powerheads. good luck and keep us updated.

Well I have not changed anything in terms of our light schedule, so it is the normal lights. If he's not ready he'll be moving downward in the tank.. Thankfully the whole area around where he is doesn't have a whole bunch of stuff in it, most things are lower or in the sand right now..

I couldn't go back to sleep and sitting here observing him to make sure all is well.

Do you have any window screening? If you want you could put two or three layers over the tank to lessen the blow when the lights come on. Thats just what i would do.

I don't have any window screening, but hoping that because he has finally made the leap over to the front, that's he's ready! We'll see how this plays out, but just fed him and appears to be super happy to take food and devour out... I'll keep watching to make sure all is well here.

He's gotten more inflated even since then and looks really awesome! The crevice he has his foot in is actually visible from the back, and I can see he's firmly attached and not moving. Keeping my fingers crossed!

He is one awesome looking (bleached if that's the case) GBTA. Hopefully he stays permanently there. Good luck

Yea, everyone says he is bleached but guessing it has something to do with his journey to our tank. I will be paying a lot of attention to him and will certainly nurse uim hack to health.

I haven't seen many gbtas with the purple tips out there... are they relatively rare and will they keep the colored tips? Most gbtas I have seen lose their color and just turn a drab green color.

Thanks!
